After many months of reading quite literarily hundreds of horror story's regarding expensive failures of cars with the duologic gearbox i decided to put this on here as an early heads-up to anyone considering a purchase of a car with this fitted!. this guide is for mainly 500,s but applies to any other model with this gearbox fitted (panda etc)
SIMPLY PUT DONT DO IT if you do!-you expose yourself to potential heartache , aggravation ,expense ,and worry.
Unfortunately Fiats attempt to make the car "easier" for some drivers didnt work out so well!.
The gearbox is highly sensitive to regular correct maintenance which most of them didn't get!, and the age of the cars now means that if something goes wrong it is near enough impossible to fix economically! and a car you paid 2.500 to 5000 quid for is in effect scrap!.
Dont take my word for it the "DUOLIGIC FAILURE THREAD" on here tells it how it is with hundreds of owners already discussing there problems and more being posted every week.
The bottom line is that a very high percentage of purchasers have had a great deal of trouble with this gearbox and IT SIMPLY IS NOT WORTH THE RISK in my opinion at least!.
And dont think buying from a dealer or trader protects you either as many examples of customers being fobbed of exist on the forum as well the consumer protection and timescales just dont support private customers getting(any ) money back and even if you got a judgement in your favour the supplier often does not pay anyway!.
Once again PLEASE THINK AGAIN! if you really need a small automatic car there are many more better examples out there (mainly Japanese such as the Honda Jazz) not as stylish as the fiat but it actually works
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!.
