The tools you will need are a 10mm spaner or 10mm socet set, possibly with a extension piece to reach a fidley bolt.
A flat head screwdriver to undo jubilee clips or long noise pliers/circlip pliers to remove the rubish ones fiat put on.
New jubilee clips to replace any of the fiat fast clip ones that you can't get back on or just to make it easy next time around.

Removing MAF Housing
The first step in chganging the filter is to make room to open the filter box.
First locate the MAF housing assembly. It is very easy to see as nothing obsructs it. It is the hard plastic pipe with a plug init that is conected to the flexi pipe; that goes into the turbo, and the air box. (When looking it will be to the right of the engine.)
first unplug the conector pluged into the MAF. To do this you must pull the little yellow clip up towards the sky, then on each end of the plug there are compressable clips which you must squeeze together to pull out the plug. see the diagram below;
1. unclip little yellow clip
2. squeeze and pull upwards

then undo the bolts that secure the plastic housing to the air box. there are two, in opposite corners. you may need to use a ratchet socet peice with an extending bar and go from underneath to remove the bottom one.
then undo the the gubilee clip/ or remove the fiat clip that holds the flexi pipe onto the other side of the plastic MAF housing. If its a jubilee clip slide it off the rubber flexi pipe and onto the hard plastic of the MAF housing as it will aid you with the next bit.
now to take out the plastic hosuing, you need to hold it against the air box with you right hand and compress the flexi pipe towards the turbo with your left which should unplug the pipe from the hosuing. then you need to squeez the end of the flexi pipe together and push it downwards and underneath the plastic MAF housing while easing the MAF housing upwards and free from the air box.

Removing Oil Trap Pipe
The next thing you need to do is unplug the oil trap pipe that feeds into the oil trap underneath the air box.
You need to do this to make room to slide in and out the air filter.
You need to jack up the car (and support it on axel stands for safety
Then crawl under and underneath the air box you should see this;

just undo the jubilee clip or remove the fiat clip (there is a guide on here about these clips, a found that you could squeeze them together with a pair of long nosed plairs and they would release... however i couldn't get it back on and had to replace it with a jubilee clip.
then pull off the pipe and you will have a clear path or the filter.

now you need to stay under the car and unclip two clips on either side of the air box at the bottom. sorry i didn't take any photos but all you need to do is find the smaller loop on each clip and pull it away from the box, this will then release the tension on the bigger loop which is holding the lid to the body.
Once these are uncliped you will be able to open the box (from underneath the car as the lid pivots on a hinge which is on the top of the box)
I found it openned a little wider if you reached through and pushed the flexi pipe up a little bit. then openned the lid.
you should then be able to remove and replace the air filter quite freely.
To put it all back together just reverse the above stages.
make sure the clips on the air box are secure and the lid is closed properly, then put the oil trap pipe back on then put the MAF housing back in. the MAF housing just goes back in in the reverse order of taking it out, i.e. push the flexi pipe down, put the housing into the air box then compress the flexi part and pull it back over the MAF housing pipe bit, replace the jubilee clip and your done.
i would like to thank all the users who gave me advice on my K&N filter thread.
