Reason I ask is because I just had the unfortunate experience of running over a cat - heard the animal being rolled underneath the car and felt a (relatively) faint thud - good thing the car isn't lowered otherwise there goes the bumper. By the time I did a U turn the the cat was gone, so I'm assuming its ok :)confused:).

Question is, how likely is the underside damaged?

As far as I know, the car does not have an engine compartment underside shield fitted as standard. Here in Romanina, it is available for about 100€, VAT included. And, mind you, it's made of plastic, not of metal.

I would suggest getting under the car and do a visual inspection or go to a garage and have it looked under...

Yet to see a cat winning this paticular dual!

You aint seen the size of cats down my way then ;)

Yeh I know the GP won the fight, but just a bit worried the animal may have caused some damage. Checked there hasn't been a leak from parking spot, so it should be ok, but will do a visual check later today..

All you will find is a bit of blood splatter & few tufts of fur.

Hopefully there aren't any guts or cockroaches attracted.. its ok to use a hose to hose the underside right? (Silly question I know, but I think you can because it gets wet when you drive in the rain or go over a puddle anyway)

moral to the story is don't run over cats you sicko.
all the other Ive just ran over a cat thread i have read on here the poster has been distraught and worried about the cat an how the little kid who loves it will feel if kitty don't make it home, and all you are worried about is a car :bang:
now i know why the boss gave us this smiley :tosser:

So you reckon I had nothing better to do after dinner so I go around running over dogs and cats??? By the time I saw the cat it already went underneath the car and I had no time to brake. Anyone behind the wheel would have ran it over and no, I was not speeding.

And fyi, I did care about the wellbeing of the cat. See this:

By the time I did a U turn the the cat was gone, so I'm assuming its ok :)confused:).

If I didn't care, why the hell did I turn around to see if the cat was ok? If I didn't care, I would have just gone on my merry way and looked for another cat to kill (as you're implying that I'm a sicko). As the cat was no longer there, what the hell was I suppose to do? Jump out of the car in a frenzy and yell 'Here kitty kitty.. where are you??', and if that fails call the cops? If there's nothing I can do for the cat, the next thing I can care about is the car.

Make sense?

Your not suposed to brake for a cat or small animal in the road. Its not worth Killing yourself or another road user chances are if you do an emergancy stop some tw@t will rear end you or you can loose control (low chance admittedly with all the ABS/EBD) if you swerve to avoid it it could put you on collision course for someone else if you dont have time to asess if its safe keep going.

Or so my driving instructor drilled into me when swerved to avoid a cat on a driving lesson and im not exactly fond of cats..

What would you have done if it had been in the middle of the road thrashing about? Is it really worth your safety and the risk of been struck by a car trying to pick it up and i dont suppose you have anyhing to keep the blood and guts off the car seats..

TBH i wouldnt have gone back to see if it was still alive ;)

If a Dog caused an accident or damaged your car the Owner would be liable for the damages where as a cat owner gets off scott free due to some old law and they dont have to pick the cat **** up either.. A mate hit a dog thet run out on him and wrecked his front wing bumper and bonnet (a big dog) and managed to claim off the owners pet insuance for the damage to his car..

Kev..... I think Dave may have been his normal self there and being a bit of a wind up...... :)
At least you went back to see if it was ok, it'll have dragged itself home i would guess, they usually do!
Hey, at least it wont try taking on a car again!

Well here's the thing: usually I'm quite laid back and what other people say don't bother me much because I respect their opinion, but if it gets across the line to the point where I'm accused of being a pyscho animal Jack the Ripper, then that's when I need to defend myself. Its a bit like, you're walking down the street minding your own business, then this guy for no reason punches you in the head. Would you run in the opposite direction, or do you punch him back? I'm no Rocky Balboa but I choose to fight!

Quite right - no animal should be the cause of human injury or death no matter how cute or cuddly - understand this point. Given it was a quiet night with almost no traffic, my instinct was to try and at least brake to avoid hitting the cat, but as I said I simply did not have time to react.

Def a bit harsh Dave. I've hit a pheasant, a deer and a fox (lots of animals on Dartmoor) and everytime i have tried to avoid them but sometimes it is just not possible. Everytime i have stopped to see if the animal was wounded or killed instantly. Managed to avoid a badger thank god as i've heard horror stories about the damage one of those can do if you hit them.

Ludluvs question was a fair one as damage has been done to the cooling system of one of my cars by accidentaily hitting an animal at 2am in the morning when it leapt out from a hedge, and he cetainly wasn't bragging about the fact he had hit an animal as he stated that he stopped to see if it was okay.

Chill out.
