So today I press the button to take the drivers window down a bit and the motor kicks in but sends the window up....there's a "jolting" sound when it does this as though it's ever so slightly reversing and then powering the window up. It kept doing this about 3 times.

I turned the car off and left it 5 seconds and push the button down again and this time the window lowers but the "express down" feature is disabled and the window stops when I release my finger.

Turned the ignition off, waited and then turned back on again and the window worked fine.

Is this a common problem? and is there a way of "resetting" it myself.

I know in the handbook it says to power the window all the way down then power it up and when it stops to keep your finger on the "up" button for a further 2 seconds.

If anyone has experienced this problem I would appreciate their comments.

Yes - 3 weeks into ownership. Really annoying as i am an in-car smoker!
Took it down to the dealer a couple of weeks back, and it was a 2 minute switch replacement. Now it is working fine!

Simon.

Chris - i'm doing my best to give up mate!

I've gotta tell you though, flicking a fag out of the passenger side window on '56 plate motor just aint good news - infact you look like a complete wally!Glad i got my drivers window done so quickly under warranty. Hope the other chap gets it sorted!

Here's to giving up smoking - cheers

Si.(y)

Thank you for your reply 'Strippy' from another one who's trying to quit....
no one who's never smoked knows how hard it is do they...?!

So ChrisUK have you ever experienced the same problem with your window ever?

So today it went in to Desira, Southgate to have the driver's side electric window problem looked at.
VERY good and efficient dealer......my god.....better than BMW or Mercedes.
The service guy ordered a selection of parts a few days ago to have every option ready for when it came in.
Sure enough it was the 'control box switch' that was faulty.
Apparantly they have had a few problems like this and have re-designed the switch and given it a new part number.
The window now works even easier if you want to manually take it down or up by just a couple of inches.....it doesn't immediately go into 'express down' or 'up' mode, like before.
They also disabled that bloody seat belt warning buzzer....so now I can manually turn it on or off via the multi-function display.
Will def go back to them again for servicing.
