It's a real shame that GPS doesn't come as an option I know other manufacturers that do, something integrated into the dashboard is preferable, it’s less likely to draw attention to by burglars…

Anyone have any experience with GPS? Anything you’d recommend? TomTom? Garmin? Navman?

Cheers…

I use my Dell PDA (uses tom tom nav5 software) and a stand alone GPS receiver that i put on the dashboard in mine as i only use it occasionally.

I've used various makes in the course of work. I've just got a Navman iCN 530 for just over £217 including full euro maps and a remote control (internet here; http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk ) Although it has a touch screen, touch screens are ok but a pain to reach miles away on the windscreen of a GP. Depending which GP you have, GPS's with bluetooth and MP3 functions are not required. Technical reviews seem to rate Navman marginally above Tom Tom although Tom Tom seems the most well known. Navman also has optional traffic module which works off RDS radio data giving live traffic info. I don't know about putting it in the drinks holder, portable units lose satellite lock very easily when thay havent got a clear view of the sky. By sod's law this usually happens in the middle of London when you're within half a mile of where you're going and the sat-nav gets lost !! Hope this helps.

And another thing - The Navman 530 is much slimmer than the Tom Tom's so it's easier to fit in a pocket so you don't have to leave it in the glove box open to being nicked !!

I am hoping that a GPS unit will come out that intergrates with blue&me using the bluetooth or maybe even usb... Microsoft press release said that it was upgradable with the possiblity of gps.

Buy a Mio !!

I have a Mio and it works perfectly (dosn't matter what type of car !!) they are cheaper than the tom toms garmins etc, but still just as good. The one i purchased has the whole of europe on an internal hard drive, plus is an mp3 player and can also synch with your MS outlook contacts so that their addresses are put into its memory to navigate to. when purchased it was still cheaper than some to the tom toms that only did the Uk ! ive had it for over a year now with no problems try their site and have a look.

I use my nokia 6630 with tomtom 5 . I bought a very small bluetooth
gps, about the size of a swan vesta match box which sits on the dash,
and my phone sits nicely in one of the cup holders. works great!

you can get the gps receivers for less than £40. so if you've got a symbian phone, you're away!!

Ill post some photos later.
