I installed a subwoofer and amp a few months ago which worked perfectly, took it out for a couple of weeks and I put it back in today and now it doesn't work...

I've got it wired with the remote to the head unit to turn on only when the radio is, but the power light never turns on. It gets about 12.5V when I test it with a multimeter through the power and ground. If I bridge the remote and power on the amp then it works absolutely fine but it's obviously being powered 24/7 that way.

Anyone come across this before?

What voltage do you get from the remote wire.

If the amp kicks in when you short the main power to the remote, then theres nothing wrong with the amp, and the problem must be related to your remote feed.

So you tested the voltage on the remote line to be 12,5 VDC with a multimeter... What would this voltage be if you LOAD the line ? One should never test the voltage on a floating line but always load it with a small bulb (i.e. 5w) that would drain some current out of the source and show the real voltage coming out of it...

Agreed

If the remote has a bad connection at the other end, or maybe a fracture somewhere in the middle, it may be capable of carrying 12v, but not neccesarily the capable of carrying few amps it needs to trigger the amplifier.

Sorry for the delay, thank you both, traced it back to my remote wire coming loose and disconnecting because I didn't solder it the first time! Rookie mistake!

Thanks for the update, job well done !!

Twist naked wire and insulation tape rarely last, welding and shrink tube usually do !

Cheers, Bernie

There is a correct way to join wires together buy sort of weaving them as apposed to twisting them to get her and is a good as soldering them
Power company's use this method of joining wires that Carry 1000s of volts but they do still use heat shrink sleeve though
