after looking the engine over to see where a diesel fume smell might be coming from, I could hear a faint chuffing sound from the top of the engine, so I took off the engine cover/filter box and it was a little easier to hear

I squirted some WD40 at the injector bases, but after looking at it I thought I would just pour water into the trough on the top of the engine where they fit

and number 2 is leaking

I have since drained all the water out

Is this an easy job to repair? the injector seals are quite cheap, it LOOKS easy, but is it? will I need any special tools?

You'll probably need inertia tool to remove it (them) , google will tell you ...

I contacted the seller and they say so, so I have ordered it anyway

My seal set was less than £5, however I am not sure about the rubber seal that goes between injector and cam cover, it might just be a O Ring, but I cant seem to find that particular seal for sale anywhere.

So, looks like next week there will be work to do! I might make a Guide for it, as I cant seem to find one on here, I did a few guides for cinquecento when I had one.

well, I started this job today with the intention of doing the first two injectors [they have to be taken out as a pair ideally] then the other two at a later date

with the help of my injector puller they came out, no probs there

but the injector seals were stuck at the bottom of the injector tubes, and no amount of using a small hook, or a flat blade screwdriver to press into them to fish them out, would do the job.

I had two choices, clean everything up and put injectors back, or install one seal over another, so I just put the injectors back, tightened the clamp as much as I dare and hope they are no worse, my water check when back running showed me its much the same.

So, I need to know how to get the injector seals out, I see another special tool having to be ordered!

any tips?

Thanks for the link, so you plan to remove the stuck seal by reaming it !? Any idea where the chips will go ?? I understand this tool is only for re-surface the seat, might even need head removal ...

I understand what you are saying but these cutters/reamers are nearly always used with the head in place on the engine, the reamer has a guide that goes down the hole where the injector nozzle fits so will go some way to stop swarf, however, after reading your question I phoned a diesel fuel injection place here in the north west of england and asked them the same question [ fuelinjectionservice.co.uk ]

they say to put some grease onto the cutter bit, and frequently remove and clean any swarf as I go from the cutter head, to keep it clean and help prevent ingress.

have also bought an injector seal removal tool like the one in the image below, so that will be tried first before drastic action is taken

Nice video, hope we'll also get the seal removal and seat reaming parts ...
