Daughters Grande Punto going great but need to drive it down to Bristol, from Aberdeen, in the next few week and doing a good service plus MOT on it.

That dreaded fumes smell is back. Took off air filter, changed the plugs and expected to see the breather hose split. It wasn't but have ordered a replacement anyway.

However, the small pipe/hose from the back of the air filter to the back of throttle housing is a smaller, thinner pipe. It has split quite a bit near where it connects to the air box. Given it all a good clean but need to replace the pipe.


Seems it a bit of a pita to get off but will get a hair dryer on it to hopefully heat it up a bit.

Anyone any idea of the internal diameter, or Fiat part number. Have read that some people just got a length of silicon pipe but need internal diameter.

I guess 3 milimeters... Not 100% sure but I solved issue with broken plastic pipe where this hose belong so I saw that pipe's diameter many times (but only with my eyes, not with measurement tool) So I think it's 3 mm, max 4. That pipe is for evaporation of fuel tank right? So choose piece of rubber pipe resistant to gasoline

Will go order a 3mm, a 4mm and a 5mm pipe at 50 cm length and just see what fits best.

I put silicone one on mine. Still OK a few years later. It just pulls off at both ends (though as you say will be stuck). Think it was 3mm but wouldn't swear my memory is any good - sorry

Have just ordered off Fleabay three 50cm lengths of 3mm, 4mm and 5mm silicon tubing and hopefully that will do the trick.

Wasn't going to pay £30 for it from Fiat stealer.

My suggestion is to remove the CAM cover and Air Box from the engine and clean the holes where the pipes go into

This will sound stupid but:
1) Get some thick Kitchen Tissue, chuck one corner into a hand held drill and spin the tissue into a tube shape
2) Force this into the breather pipe opening to clean out the sludge, you will see it forces the reside out like a hydraulic noodle maker
3) Repeat
