Hi,

Been having ongoing problems with my 2006 1.9 Punto Grande 130, the latest of which is the battery occasionally draining over night.

A while back I noticed that there was a over-excited relay one night and the next morning my battery was down to the 10/11v mark. I swapped the battery for a fully charged one and everything seemed fine for a few weeks. Now exactly the same thing has happened again.

I checked the 5 big cube relays for operation and continuity and they all performed perfectly. Changed battery again (12.7v charged - 14.0v whilst running). A draw test showed 35mA so there's no major draw. I was happy there wasn't an issue and it was just one of those things, being winter and lack of a long run.

Started her up to let her idle for 15 minutes which was problem free, but once I turned off a relay started clicking intermittently (which I couldn't pin point) and the throttle body would operate causing the plate to open and close intermittently.

As of now I'm a bit stumped, any advice would be greatly received!

Many thanks,
Dan

Are you sure you were hearing a relay?
Maybe it was a solenoid, or the throttle plate?
Start from the throttle plate, unplug that.. see if the power draw goes away.
If it does examine that circuit.
If it doesn't unplug something else and try again.

I'd suspect there's some moisture/ corrosion, either in the fuse box, either in one of the connectors. The moisture/corrosion closes a circuit leading to stuff moving, current being consumed.

Thanks for your reply!

There were two distinct sounds, one was the throttle motor working (along with the plate clacking open and shut), the other was from the fuse box, so it may be something other than a relay!

I just took the fuse box off now to have a look under and check connections etc. One of the connects had a lot of dirt on the outside of it although it all looked fairly dry down there, and looking at the plugs themselves they all were clean and dry at the contacts.

Will have a more in depth look tomorrow once my hands have thawed :)

While reading alot of peoples situation I had the same problem and found that the earth wires are very bad and rotten you will find this under the washer bottle once you have sorted this it seems to be good as new
