Hey guys

I recently came across these 12 volt oil filter pumps that drain your oil via the the diptych housing. These seem like a good purchase, but surprised I've not heard more about them on forums.etc.

Just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with them and if so are there any drawback / problems people have faced.

Thanks

Don't see the point;

Pump costs money and will be slow.
Normal way is free and quick.

I also don't think they'd fully drain the oil anyway as the dipstick tube will stop somewhere above the bottom of the sump.

Save your money.

I bought one of these, from one of the bargain German shops, used it twice, once on my car and once on my wife's car. To be honest, they're rubbish. It's actually quicker doing an oil change the traditional way.

They are only really useful if you don't have access to ramps or jacks, and only of the oil filter is accessible from the top of the engine bay. Also useful if the sump drain plug is rounded or jammed tight.

I have a vacuum operated oil extractor, only because it is convenient, far less messy, and means i don't do my back in laying underneath the car.

I have used the manual vacuum pump for many years, make sure oil is heated up first. You will get to the bottom of the sump as the pipe you insert in the dip stick pipe will be longer than the dipstick! I have drained a Punto with this and then removed the drain plug and NOTHING came out. You can also take out oil from the head as well.

It's more for mess and convenience as I an tired if the.mess afterwards. I would have thought it would get to the bottom as the dips tick surely.needs to get down for an accurate reading.

Looks like a split decision. I may get one as for £15 u can't complain and sometimes I cannot be doing with mess just really bithers me

Yes the dip stick will get well into the sump.

The guide tube, which is what you'll be sucking through, won't. Assuming you're feeding some other pipe down inside that tube then maybe it will work, maybe it won't as that pipe may curl up when it reaches the end.

It'll get the majority of the oil out not everything, and definitely not the crap at lying at the bottom.

I think you'd be better spending the money on a good cheap drain pan, and maybe a roll of plastic from homebase you can lay on the ground then bin afterwards to save on the cleanup time.
