Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

Hello to everyone! It's my first thread and I know that has been discussed a lot but I can't really find a solution.I'm referring to t-jet (common) drive shaft problem.Few months ago I decided to buy some eibach sportlines in order to lower my t-jet.After that-even if it wasn't that low-three drive shaft failures in one month. This fact made me to change back to stock springs and put also some new bushes.I recently found a drive shaft from abarth grande punto in rexbo's site and I wanted to ask you if you think that this could be a permanent solution to t-jet drive shaft problem.

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

3 failures in one moth... that's got to be manufacturer's fault.
I mean even if you drove the car without grease in the cv boots .. i don't think you can damage 3 drive-shafts in one moth
In my opinion.. if you lower it a bit... with stiffer springs.. that would only benefit the drive shaft...as the up-down motion would be smaller and the drive-shaft would be straighter.

Maybe because the shafts are straighter there is not enough movement in the drive shaft joints.. that could make the "bearings" in the joints wear in the same spot.

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

Tjet's driveshaft is very short in order to work with lower springs. It's a factory mistake and I have (almost) never heard of someone to lower a gp t-jet without drive shaft problem. That's why i'm looking for an abarth's one but i don't really know if it would be fully compatible and if it would give a solution.

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

I don't think AGP shafts are compatible.

I'm finding it impossible btw. I've seen a tjets' driveshaft (even without grease in both inner CV tripods (factory fail, boots were in excellent condition) making A LOT of miles.

Which side is always fail on yours? Inner/outer cv - left / right ?

I'm not so sure but I think that all the times was inner left. Why you don't believe that an abarth's one would be compatible?

Not sure?
I thought you replaced it your self.
Garage replaced whole driveshaft or inner cup only?

Part original new?

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

Garage replaced whole drive shaft three times.I paid only for the first one.The parts were used. They insisted that the springs wasn't the problem so it kept happening.

CV joints are available in various styles ( for different applications)

may be worth getting a different set-up built onto one of the DEAD ones you've got left,

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

I very much doubt your lowering springs are the issue.
I've heard people have only problems with driveshafts once lower past a set about.. usually about 60mm.. eibachs are no way near that.
what are they replacing the driveshafts with? are they using OEM spec or pattern parts?

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

My bet is that the driveshafts were already bad from crashed cars or long time exposed to dirt etc (I know how scrap yards work here )

Ask ricambi or fiat for a new cup + needle bearings and replace only that parts

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

Thank you all for your replies. All the parts were oem and the garage told me that they changed whole drive shaft(both inner and outer parts).I might give it a try with new parts from fiat or ricambi but I am not that sure that it will work and I don't want to lose my car for days again. That's why I was looking for a safer setup.Reuuk what you think about the abarth's one?

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

Also in the garage they told that even with the stock setup the drive shaft works in the limits and that's why it fell off with the eibachs.Could it be something that makes it fail again and again?

Re: Grande Punto T-Jet drive shaft problem

Abarth GP has the same shaft/cups with the 1.9 (and maybe 1.6) diesel models btw
(which also have the same gearbox with different ratios)

Replace the part with original new this time and make sure there is grease inside them...
Thanks MikeAGR thanked for this post
