Rear door handles on a 56 plate GP, won't open from the outside. I know this is a standard fault from searching the forum, but my question is can they be removed and modified by ingenuity to get them working correctly, or is the only resolution here to get a new set of handles?

And if a new pair is required, can anyone advise a good (i.e cheap) source of the plain black plastic variety?

Bumping this as I never got a reply to the original. I'm looking to fix these for the MOT in a few weeks time and still not sure if they can be fixed/modified, or do I just need to bite the bullet and buy a new pair?

My back doors wouldnt open at first, apparantly they stick and because theyre not used as much as the front ones, theyre just harder to open! You have to literally pull the handle quite hard and suddenly and it SHOULD do the trick, mine are slowly becoming easier to open now.
Hope this works

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for your response. I am sure the problem is not the doors sticking. They can be opened easily from inside. I believe this is a well known issue with GPs, where the rear door handle just doesn't unlatch the door. If you know the technique, you can give the handle a sharp tug while holding it at one end.

I had a long debate with MOT tester last year, he initially failed the car on this point but after I demonstrated they could just about be opened he agreed to change it to 'needs attention' item.

I've bought a new pair now, from SG Petch, and plan to fit them today.
