Sorry to post yet another post regarding this as I know there are loads of them on the forum but this is really annoying me
When starting the engine is cranking fine but just doesn't start first time, always starts second time though and is followed by a puff of white/grey smoke. It's not the EGR valve as that was removed and mapped out, and yes I wait until the glow plug light has gone out and the fuel pump has primed. Apart from this the car is running fine and the fault is intermittent. Has anybody actually managed to track the problem down as lots with this engine are having problems

Same problem here. I've had new glow plugs, EGR cleaned, new timing belt phase sensor and none of that worked. Now fiat have said the ECU is at fault but they're not even 100% sure of that. My car has been gone nearly a month now and im still paying my finance and insurance but dont have the use of it. Surely i should be able to claim something back for mis-diagnosis?

If anyone has had this problem fixed then please chip in. Loads more threads are popping up for the same problem. Would be cool to beat a mean dealer to the correct diagnosis.

Yeah surely you must be able to claim something back, it's ridiculous having to pay out when they haven't fixed the issue! Have you tried a new battery yet mate? That's my next route as a lot of the guys on here reckon they have fixed there starting problems by upgrading to a battery with more crank power
