im wondering if anybody can help me out to save me paying the £85 diagnostic check at my Fiat dealership :|

a few weeks ago i had a bump in my car, my front drivers side bumped the back passenger side of a car as i was pulling out of a parking space. ever since then my wheels will be straight but my steering wheel will be pointing to 2oclock. i didnt think it needed immediate attention and as im low on monies at the minute i just persisted with it.

just recently ive been getting a clicking noise when i make left turns and full lock left clicks worse. aswell now when im driving my steering wheel is twitching right with a click and always wanting the car to go right so im fighting it to go in a straight line. (n)

Any ideas??

Ok now its got worse, just gone to drive away and it started clicking like crazy from the right drivers wheel and now the car wont move.

try and set off in any gear and it just starts clicking like something is catching and wont drive. it wont stall when u take ur foot off the clutch and leave it in gear. when you have the wheel to full lock left and take a look under the right wheel arch u can see something just spinning round and loose when trying to set off.

Any ideas?

As above, sounds like the C/V joint has gone. Really, the alarm bells should have rung when the steering wheel was out of line - that would suggest something was bent in the crash.

Thanks for replies :)

got a mechanic to pick it up for me and he has said its the driveshaft and all needs to be replaced.

does anyone know roughly what this will cost so im not getting ripped off? im just waiting for Fiat to come back to me with a genuine part price, im just wondering if anyone else is in the trade or had one replaced themselves??

it is my own fault for ignoring the out of position steering wheel but lesson learnt (n)

A quick ebay would indicate that inner and outer CV joints are about £20 each.
Maybe a little less if you shop around.
I think it's unlikely that the shaft would be buggered, and more likely a CV joint.
It's probably a few hours work tops.

I wouldn't expect to pay much more than £100 for a local mechanic to do the work, with the CV included in that.
