When driving on the motor way my battery light came on, when I came off the motor way I the. Noticed a loss in power steering , when I arrived at the shooing center I was going to I turned my Car on and off and notice the power steering came back temporarily and only works when my car is going over 5mph , on the way home lights on the dash appeared on abs failure, check power steering, airbag failure , dull lights ? I'm thinking an alternator , anyone had this problem ?

Sounds like alternator- electric PAS failure and battery-not-charging light should be ringing the "stop the car asap and work out what's wrong" alarm bells in your head. Have you opened the bonnet and checked the belt is still there?

Had a very similar problem by the sounds of it - alternator and new battery needed.

It was dark so did not get a proper look under the bonnet , I'm also not a mechanic and don't no a lot about engines so was just a rough guess , and how much was it for a new alternator and battery mate ?

I was just covering all the bases by changing the battery as well - had to take the car to France on the afternoon that it happened so paid something like £400 to get it done asap. Just what I needed...
