I have a 1.2 active GP

was driving into my street decellerating in 2nd and came to almost a complete stop when i took it out of gear, there was a bang from the front of the car and it jolted to a stop, i tried reversing it and i could feel alot of resistance so i put it in neutral to see if it would roll down hill, felt like a park brake was engaged as there was no moving it (manual g/box though) now i can get it into all forward gears but i am getting no forward drive, reverse is working but only just, when reversing i saw the engine was vibrating alot.

any ideas?

doubt its the clutch seeing as i can get reverse. think it might be ceased bearings on the output shaft or something inside the gearbox, the strange thing is its only done 16k, normally fiat gearboxes do **** up at one point but not after such a low mileage?

nope, ran out in september....
used to work as an apprentice mechanic for fiat for a year, could strip and rebuild them with my eyes closed so might take a while to find some time to do it though

went into work this morning to pick up a few tools and a spare car, took a few things apart to just check couldnt see anything under the gear change mechanism on the g/box, so decided to jack it up on the near side, took the nearside front wheel off, crawled under and found this.... a few cracks right at the diff/final drive, dripping g/box fluid, looks like something has gone .....nah i dont want to work anymore.... now trying to decide whether to source a used g/box or strip it and find out that it need some more bits and bobs

Surely it would be easier to source a second gearbox? That way you would be able to just bang it on (not literally speaking), so you could get your car back on the road again.

You could then strip down the knackered box and see if it's repairable.

first one ive sourced is only 250 so might go for that, ive got another car to run around in at the moment so im in no rush to get iit back on the road, the only problem is getting it to my work, think the diff is jamming so will only reverse, dont think i can reverse all the way to my work lol
