Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has posted instructions on an oil change for a 2007 model Grande Punto 1.9 JTD? I've done plenty of oil changes before but not on anything this new (and never a Fiat) so I'm wondering if I should be aware of anything Fiat specific (ie oil filter a b!tch to remove etc)?

Thanks in Advance (y)
J

Although you can change the oil yourself (I'm assuming your car is also equiped with a Diesel Particulate Filter) you will also need to get the oil service/degradation counter reset. If you are not hammering the diesel engine the the oil change indicator will not come on till around 18K miles.

Failure to reset the oil change warning will result in the engine ECU stopping DPF regenerations. This will evenutally lead to DPF clogging which if not immediatley sorted out will damage the DPF and cost you £1500 to replace!

FiatECUScan can do oil change resets on some models of Fiat. Do'nt know if the Punto JTD is one of them.

Not all GP Multijets have DPF.

The change is best done with a ramp as the Oil Filter cap is quite difficult to reach from being led down below.

The oil filter housing has a drain spout to which you can attach some garden hose to stop the oil pouring down over the drive shafts etc.

Many thanks for the replies.
Here's the story: Its got just over 30k (kilometers here in Australia) on the clock. Its had its 15k service and is now slightly ovedue for the 30k service, but as I'm short on funds at the moment I cant afford to get it serviced for another 6-8 weeks. I have a 700 kilometer trip coming up soon, and concerned with the aging oil in it, I was going to change the oil myself as a temporary measure before getting the service. I drive her with respect and dont often give it a boot full. Hardly ever in fact.
Is there anything I can do to see whether it has a DPF or not?
Looking forward to your helpful advice.
