Technical Turbo problem??

Ive had poor mpg for a while now, its gone down to 35mpg, dealer replaced the turbo because of it leaking oil. It now picks up well, below 2000rpm, pulls stronger as well. Though fuel economy is still poor.

Turbo failure isnt common, it happens, and to all makes. BMW have issues on the 320d. Its all been said before.

Almost 40,000 miles on my 56 plate 1.9 MJet now, 190+ bhp, my clutch doesnt slip and it still goes like it should and returns 49mpg knocking around and 56mpg on a Motorway run, and I still dont have to top up the oil between services.

Driving method and style is important for economy AND reliability, along with the use, if you do loads of city / town driving economy wont be great, but neither would any car unless its a devoted city car / puddle jumper!

Hi guys,

Just a quick update. I had my car in at the GK garage in Sheffield, they diagnosed the problem as being a vacume hose that wasnt attatched properly. Thus causing air to escape causing the whistling sound and reduced power.

There was also a coolant leak which they fixed at the same time.

All in all very good service from GK.

Cheers.

Thought i'd add to this thread rather than create yet another turbo thread.

Did an oil change on the car this morning and noticed oil leaking from the turbo. Looks like the car is going back to Fiat to have it looked at.

Not sure if it is a sign of a duff turbo, or just a seal that is letting by.

Any ideas?

i will jump in on this turbo thread too..Ive just had the 36K service at an independant fiat garage as they were much cheaper (245) and they advised my turbo was making a very noticable whistle...ive had this problem before which was due to some loose turbo pipes but eventually turned into a new turbo not too long after Fiat sorted the pipes out !! Ive now done 10K on this new turbo and the same seems to be happening...can only put this down to the map i think which im considering removing as i cant be bothered with turbo problems every 10K especially as my car is out of warranty in the next 6 months !

i have a noisy turbo but the performance is fine so i cannot think mine is a air leak problem how much was a new turbo

Thanks, i have had a look and they look easy enough to fit and at about £700 labour i will do it myself

Sorry, i am getting my lines crossed mine is a punto 1.3 multijet and my turbo is a kkk k35 turbo, but i am thinking it will be about the same price anyway.I have not been drinking honest

One site i have found about £550 they were used on many other cars would any one fit or will the mountings be different apart from the corsa which is the same engine

Yes, the same turbo can have many different variations depending on the engine application. So I suggest you work with a Fiat variant to save a lot of time and effort. :)

I'd better join in with this one :(

Mine has developed a 'flat spot' between 1.5k RPM and 2k RPM. It pulls as normal up to 1.5k RPM then theres no power upto 2k RPM and then the turbo comes in with a kick

It's booked into Fiat for Thursday morning so we'll see what they say.
