Hi folks, im still finding it excidingly difficult to start my GPSmjet of a morning, even after waiting for all the lights to go out.

I've had the software update at my local dealer, Blackburn Motor Park. Along with Fiat Technical attending to diagnose further. They reccomended replacement earth leads. A few weeks on and the fun continues.

I know other threads exist on this topic but has anyone yet recieved a resolution and if so what did they do? Perhaps looking for advice from any Fiat Techs on here T i think maybe?

This is prob quite an obvious one and i'm sure you've tried it (or do it) but i find pushing the clutch down helps mine start easier.

In the winter without the clutch down it tries turning over for ages! Went to Fiat about it and all they said was to wait a little longer after the lights go out on the dash.

I have had no problems starting hot or cold weather in 36,000 miles.

Hot and Cold are subjective in the UK though...

Vince wow! what a difference, i mean its still takes a bit but a hell of a lot less.

Wonder if someone could explain this? Sensor issue?

I get difficulty starting in the morning but the following almost always works.

Start as normal but only let it turn over for half a second, then turn the key all the way off. Then try starting again - should start instantly. Don't ask me why.

By dipping the clutch you're not having to turn the transmission as well, so more power can go to your spark plugs ;)

18 days to go till I get my first diesel since 1994, can you tell?

To me it sounds like a weak battery or dodgy engine / gearbox earth point. I dont have to do anything like that, just twist the key, let the light go out and twist again, it always turns over quickly and starts within 1 or 2 seconds.

Hence the winking smillie after the word plugs and the long time since diesel statement. :)

Mind you with some folk if you told them after the remap, the next big power gain would be to fit a petrol cylinder head with plugs and coils they'd bite your hand off quicker than my dog at chicken(and believe me, she loves chook!!) :D

If its really cold and frosty I normally give mine 2 sets of lights in the morning, it does usually take a second or 2 to start though, I get a huge plume of smoke too

i had this problem when i initial brought my GP, they replaced the o2/lambda sensor whiched seemed to make things a bit better but then replaced the inlet manifold on another inspection... maybe something to look at? I also had the update done aswell!

Just to clarify that on start up you wait for the glow plug to do its thing, looking at the little light Swiggley thing in the right hand corner to go out? It also helps if you wait for the lights to go out on the dash

Hiya, yes always wait for the lights to go out. And now press the clutch pedal. Its much better but still taking its time.

Spoke to Claire @ Blackburn Fiat today, and they have another MJET giving out the same syptoms thats currently being investigated. Again FIAT Technical involved. Shes kindly said if they reach a resoultion she will call me up so mine can be done too.

I know you've been mocked for this but it does still have glow plugs, which if memory serves heat the mixture in the cylinder during the starting cycle until its hot enough for the compression of the cylinders alone to be enough to cause it to explode.

IIRC they don't even come on unless its a certain temp outside anyway? although i could be wrong.

i have the same problem to this, but it only happens now and again. When it does the dashboard displays high radiator temperature and once it starts loads of smoke comes out the exhaust. Have you resolved this issue?

Yeah...mine does the exact same thing if I try and start it before the glowplug light goes out....lol

D'oh! Too many years driving a petrol....
