Painted my callipers red the other day with some left over calliper paint from a friend. Just wondered what you all thought?

Lowering is the next job

thanks mate! yeah...red is the typical choice...I was thinking of yellow 'cos thats the colour of the lowering springs i'm getting apparently but red was the paint we had... :)

Its not a bad job really...took us about 2 hours I think...although getting the rear wheels off proved to be a pain in the arse!!

Looks real good mate. To be honest that looks quite low already, how much of those springs are you going to see anyway.

Thanks alot!! :D Yeah it does look low...although i've seen other sportings lowered to 40mm and they just look awesome!!! That's the thing...once its lowered the wheels fill the arch so you wouldn't see them without looking real hard!

looking good (y) might do the same TOP JOB!

Yeah, it's surprising what a little thing like that can do! Makes me smile everytime!!! Thanks!! (y)

good job, looks great. Looks better on the m-jet wheels though :p

Red the best, it goes with the red badges, especially on a black car

lol, well the full size spare I have in the back is an mjet wheel...just need another 3 now :p

Yep, red brakes, red badges, black car is awesome combination indeed!!! :D

erm guys , does any1 know how to get the pads out? i need to change my pads , but havnt got the foggiest how to get the caliper to swing out... wiht my old mk2 it was just a pin , but no such luck here lol... gp 1.2... cheers peeps :)

yep nice and easy to do when you know how ;)

Jack car up safely axle stand and chock wheels

remove wheel

you need a 13 mm spanner....

a piece of bent welding rod bent into an S shape helps too..

you need to remove both 13mm bolts (which are at the back of the caliper) when you remove them you need to be able to support the caliper (as it will dangle by the rubber hose (not good) hence the S hook hooked onto the suspension spring then hang the caliper on it...

next remove the pads they wiggle/ pull off..

you should also replace the spring retaining clips (they look the same but they aint there are 2 types (look at them closely you will see) so dont get them mixed up..

if you need to replace the disc you need to do more but you dont mention that so i wont go there

now you have the pads out of the holder you need to refit the new ones..

clean the caliper and holder with disc cleaner

its good practice to apply a smear of cera tec grease to the piston edge

you need to reset the piston at this point now i dont know the official fiat method but I do the following

Remove the brake fluid bottle cap (under the bonnet)

cut a piece of wood 2-3" square and about 10mm thick and put this over the piston. then use a g-clamp to press the piston back in

now apply a thin smear of crea tec on the back of the inside pad (the one that sits against the piston) BUT NOT THE OUTBOARD PAD! this has an adhesive backing so peel the white label off and offer up to the caliper next refit the caliper body to the caliper making sure the bolts are tight

refit wheel

lower car

replace top cap on fluid bottle and pump the brakes to adjust the piston to its bite point..

Hope that helps (y)
