Angry "CHECK ENGINE" + Amber Pump symbol

Hi All,
I have a 56 Plate Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 M-Jet Sporting and yesterday an error message appeared on the dash "Check Engine" which displays on ignition and the Amber Pump symbol is constantly on.

The car drives and sounds fine. I've checked the oil and that seems ok. Its about 4000 miles away from its 2nd service. I'm hoping my new car will arrive before I need to invest (I'm getting a T-Jet Bravo)

Any suggestions?

Need to get a code reader to fin out more. Ask a local garge just for a reading, shouldn't take too much for it. Then you can do soemthing when you know what it is.

Re: "CHECK ENGINE" + Amber Pump symbol

And the real reason is.........

The "problem" (no actual issue with my car apart from the light and the message-drives fine) appeared on Saturday night. Garages don't open til Monday.
I have worked 12 hour shifts from 7am til 7pm Monday and today. No possibility of me getting my car to see a doctor... However I was worried with it being an engine fault, so wanted to source your minds to see how likely my car will conk out on me whilst driving to work...

I should be able to go to my dealership tomorrow.

What sort of service from the dealership should I be expecting? i.e Yup just give us the keys ; heres a courtesy car.. we'll call you when we've sorted it...
OR ok the next available date for an appointment is in 2 weeks time??

Thumbs down Re: "CHECK ENGINE" + Amber Pump symbol

I went to Research Garage in Nuneaton and had them check it out... I took my car keys and told me to wait in waiting room.
My car has BlackJax Anti Hijack Clifford Alarm function which cuts the engine & electronics if no pin number is entered. I forgot to tell them about it...

A few minutes later, I heard my car alarm go off. Then a few further moments the service advisor came out with my key and said it is safe to drive but requires further investigation. We can book you in on Monday (This being Wednesday)
As I'm going to Rome next Monday, booked in for Monday 17th.

When I returned to my car, the car was fully immobilised showing that Blackjax had initiated which makes me wonder how Research were able to look at the alarms if they did at all?!

I wasn't happy with the response I got considering its an engine fault, so I phoned Grays Garage in Warwick. I was told that if I dropped the car in they'd try to have a look at it but couldnt promise as they were fully booked and couldn't provide me with a courtesy car. However they advised they could book it in for thursday (this being today)

They also recommended if I was worried about driving around with a potential engine fault to call out the AA to get them to have a look at the Alarms and depending on what it is they may be able to resolve it.

I got the AA out and they were very good. They noted it was the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve. They checked that it was all tight. Cleared the alarm and asked me to have a bit of a drive to see if it was ok. The car felt a lot perkier and the alarm didnt return.
AA gave me a Breakdown report to hand to the dealership.

There must be a better way of looking after Fiat customers in the event of emergency repairs that could potentially be a safety issue?!

Grays response was obviously fairly good but not brilliant, as it still requires more of my time/ second visit to the dealership.

The Alarm has now returned since all this.

(Thanks for listening to my waffle!!)

Re: "CHECK ENGINE" + Amber Pump symbol

With my 1st fault on my car when the indicators packed up after 300 miles, the response I got from the dealers was "call the AA"!!

Re: "CHECK ENGINE" + Amber Pump symbol

Had the egr valve go on mine.

The amber light came up, I took it into BS Marsons (my usual dealership) in Newcastle under lyme, they were very busy but took it in the same morning and had it done by the afernoon (the part was in).

BS Marsons are a good dealership, highly recommended. They fix all of my faults without question (I've had plenty of faults).

Compared to other dealerships i've dealt with they are brilliant.
