Got myself a 2nd hand Grande Punto Dynamic a couple of days ago, seriously pleased with it and got a good deal too.

So far ive come across two problems - the rear left door can be hard to open from outside (seen in the forums this is a known problem with an easy fix, ill be taking this to the dealers for that one if it continues)
2nd 'problem': When I start the car, as soon as air starts circulating, the car stinks, smells like a dog has shat itself in the air vents. The smell fades fairly quickly and disappears once the car is moving, so Im guessing its something near the air intake where smells build up while stationary...

where does air enter the system? Ive had a look around and have found the recurculation intake behind the glove box, cant see anything under the bonnet though. This isnt an aircon thing because there is no difference with the aircon on or off.

I have a similar problem with my corsa. I have never been able to describe the smell but you have described it very well! I have always come to the conclusion that it is the aircon system as i find i get the smell when turning the aircon on if it is not already switched on when the car starts. I think that it is stagnant mouldy water that sits in that aircon system that causes this problem. Not really sure though. I have never found a fix but i think their are some aircon frshbers out there. We need an aircon expert on this.

Your door lock problem.....

as for your doggy smell.............have a quick look under the carpets are they wet?:( or as Tommy said my just need a air-con spray to get rid of smell.

the door lock thing I'll be keeping an eye on, but it seems to be ok - rear handles both seem to need slightly more pull that you'd expect (more than on my old Mk1 anyway) but open fine - if this gets worse ill definitely be talking to the dealership (will do anyway if i need to take the car in for anything else)

Had another quick poke a sec ago and carpets themselves are dry, too dark for me to fiddle around with removing them sufficently to check underneath, what would moisture under there indicate though? or are we talking dog **** ?

Tommorow morning i'll investigate further, i'm also gonna try turning on the vent straight to recirculated air to see if the smell is coming from within the system.

i had this in my fiesta, it was due to a wet passenger carpet, a very musty smell. died out the carpet and never had the problem since.

My air-con didn't smell too good so I popped to sainsburys and picked up a can full of magic stuff :D Just turn on the air con/recirculation, press the top of the can, shut car door & run. After about 10 mins open door, take out cold can & you have a nice new smelling car. Kills all the nasties that cause the smell and generally freshens up your car - Well worth the £3.50.
