General Philips X-TREME +80% Headlight bulbs

i would say you are paying for the name... i have a set of cheapy ones from flea bay and they suit me fine! :D you can get some 6500k xenon effect H4 bulbs for about a fiver!!!

I had the cheap ones in my clio. Thet looked the business, but didn't improve the vision distance at night. It's more the actual visible distance that I am interested in.

Have the ones u got minnt made the GP better in the dark?

I'm going to fit some of these bulbs later today. I'll let you know if they make a noticeable difference. I know Capt. Chaos has got a set of these on his GP too.

I fitted them to my GP last week.
Uprading the bulbs is always something I do on a car, such a benefit for small outlay/effort

Without a doubt a great upgrade.(y)

Compared to the Philips Silverstar I used on my previous car the X-TREME are a good step up.

The colour temperature is white as opposed to the yucky yellower colour of the standard bulbs.
Also the pattern of the dipped beam is is much more defined (I guess because it is brighter). The light is definitely thrown further ahead.
One other thing I noticed on dipped beam that I didn't before, is there seems to be more periperhal illumination about 20-30deg off centre which is a great benefit for lighting the kerb/pavement/verge.
Main beam has a similarly big increase in the distance illuminated.

I really suggest strongly that you buy these.
Got mine from Ebay, less that £22 delivered.

Only problem was me!
I dropped the offside rear cover into the depths below. Couldn't see it so had to remove the airbox in the end. Turned a 10 minute job into 45 mins.
Access to the rear of the light units is poor but that's not uncommon on cars these days.

As a bonus they come in a nice plastic case to keep the old ones in as spares.
Also, just to give the premium effect, the metal body of the bulb is highly polished.

Great, could you let me know how you fit them too. Had a look and there isnt a lot of room for manouve!

Sorry Phostead, missed your comment.

Open bonnet:rolleyes:
Remove round rubber rear cover, just pulls off, don't drop it!
Before you remove the bulb, look at it from the front, you will see the location 'pips', make a note of their orientation (ath the bottom)
Pull off connector
There is a metal clip that you need to push to one side (can't remember which sorry) then hinge it back which will allow you to pull the bulb out.
Again note orientation (middle connection at the top)
Fit the new one (don't touch the glass), hinge the metal clip up and lock back into position.
Re-fit connector.
Re-fit rear cover.

The nearside (left hand side) is gives easier access.
You cannot really see the metal clip so a lot of it is by 'feel'

Good luck!

I have seen these bulbs on Ebay and wonder if you think they are any good. They seem to offer either 55w or 100w whats the difference? Also they look very blue, do they look very blue when in use? Again will these side lights look too blue when they are on?

Thanks again

Personally I wouldn't as they are not branded. But you pays your money and takes your choice.... Plus he appears to give an unconditional 21 day moneyback gtee so not much to loose

Also I don't think 100W are legal for road use (ideal for forest rally stages no doubt;) )

Autoexpress did a review of H4 Blue bulbs a while back

As mentioned by the Dog, ive had these fitted to mine for about a month or more now. TBH its makes a massive difference! Much brighter with a very noticeable crisp white light!

Also suggest the philips hyper white side light bulbs as well. Reason being the standard sides dont half look yellow compared to the upgraded main beams!

It does not effect the warranty, its very very easy to do and cheap.

What you waiting for get em bought ffs!

Links would be nice to sites that sell them apart from eBay..

And don't laugh at me aboot warrenty question... :(

Just bought a set of Osram Cool Blue bulbs from ebay for under a tenner. I did a google product seach and they were much more expensive.

These are the ones that won the Auto Express reviews that was mentioned earlier.

I also bought a set of Philips Blue Vision W5W side lights to go with them.

do you have to remove the battery cover to gain accsess to n/side bulbs

I changed the dipped, sidelights and indicator bulbs on Friday - all in all, took about 15 mins.

Still not actually driven at night so still to see the results, but I put xenon effect ones in my old car and really liked the difference. Mine were Philps BlueVision and Philips Silver vision for the indicators. Got them both from an ebay shop, link below:
