Cool Smoking like a research lab beagle

Just had the GP remaped and am well chuffed with it (big up Red dot racing!), however it's smokey at them moment under hard acelleration. I have about 7k on the clock. Is this normal and just the car getting rid of all the built up crap?

Cheers

Prob should have made it a bit clearer. Under normal conditions there is no smoke, it's only when I am giving it some, 3500 revs +

The soot that you get when booting hard is normal, it happens with all diesels if you get behind one take a look. It does get worse when you re-map it. I noticed it quite bad the other day when someone with xenon lights was quite close behind me, i accelerated hard and it really stood out in his lights.

Dont worry unless its really thick, normally it clears pretty quickly.

Re: Smoking like a research lab beagle

Depends on what you mean by smoking. if your getting thick black smoke comming out like a smoke machine its not right and they have probably remaped it too agressivly. As said remaped diesels will smoke more but shouldn't be excessivly worse.

One way to help would be to get a aftermarket panel air filter from the likes of BMC who make them already. Or if your competant do a DIY Induction kit. I did for a short while on my GP Sporting and it sounded sweet & reduced smoking .

Re: Smoking like a research lab beagle

Update, been out for a spin today, it only puffs when I give it some, and its a kind of light grey colour. Think it must have been cleaning it's self out??? Suggestions still welcome.

Does anyone know where you can get a BMC panel filter from?

Re: Smoking like a research lab beagle

Donít worry the smoke is just unburned fuel. As chrisuk suggested, adding a after market air filter will reduce the smoke because they allow more air flow and then more fuel can the burned

But if you run your GP off bio diesel there will be no smoke at all

Doesn't the diesel 1.9 Sporting have a particulate filter as standard? Which, if it does, should eliminate all soot

No they dont come with one as standard and to be honest i wouldnt want one either as a lot of them are causing fires due to the temperatures they get up to. These problems need addressing before they become compulsory.

Re: Smoking like a research lab beagle

Still an option on the MY07 models and is about £600 i think. Glad they are not standard, my mate has a Laguna and his clogged and threw the car into safe mode. Renaults advice, we can celar it for £400, or drive at 50mph for about 50 miles and it will clear. Like you can do that at the drop of a hat. He also works in central London, so he is lucky if he can do 5mph, lol

I read in the GP manual that the 1.9 with DPF is not recommended for short journeys... I guess that should also include slow journeys!
