Generic MP3 input on active HU

This is really easy to do and should only cost you a couple of quid!

Firstly you will need to make up a lead.

Bought a screened 3.5mm figure of 8 jack extension cable crop the cable to length then seperate the 2 wires...

strip the outer black sheathing off about 3"..

next gather up the outer strands and twist together (these need to be insulated with heatshrink tubing and ideally soldered at the end)

strip the 2 coloured cores (one is left and the other right) ((right is usually red))

and crimp on 110 red female spade crimps to each wire and the outer strands

next insulate the crimps (i used heat shrink)

and use some tape to hold the wires into the crimp as an added fail safe

next pop the headunit out

locate the AUX socket

your looking for A.AF-R (PLUG THE RIGHT wire in)
A.A (earth symbol)
A.AF-L (plug the left wire in)

put back together and test.. ( i just run the wire out of the corner of the HU the wire is thin enough to push back in to the void round the HU when not in use and pull out when wanted)

So is this any good for a Stilo head unit? Also do you have to select the input (AUX) or is it automatic?

Re: Generic MP3 input on active HU

Just did mine now, bit of a squeeze but done, great sound quality, got my iPod touch connected and am surfing the wi-fi from my house. Don't get interference luckily. Thanks. Oh and I used a wire coat hanger to get the HU out.

Hey, its weird that your HU has no labels, but having compared it to the wiring diagram I have labelled the connectors I believe are for the AUX. However I am not sure, best thing is to give it ago, the worst thing that could happen is you blow the fuse which are easy to replace i'm sure.

It is the same as yours with labels, I'll take a photo in moment - do you want a pic of the label? or the connections?

Re: Generic MP3 input on active HU

I have just taken a photo of mine and I realised that my aux is labelled different to Andy's as shown in my photograph below. So Skitz I suggest you try both wiring. Are you sure you have the aux option - if you double press the CD button do you get AUX? If not then this guide is no good for you. But assuming it does have it, it seems that you will have to do trial and error.

A.AF-R - right aux
A.AF (in between R and L) is earth
A.AF-L - left aux
