Although I think my mate sent his in and they phoned him and said its going to cost and he just asked for it to be sent back.Then traded it in

i think its a hit and miss thing like some they do to get good customer satisfaction the odd one they wont to save money and time

Not really random as stated above nearly everyone seems to have managed to have it done for free

The first time ya. The first time i got the red rings i sent it in and got a brand new one back
and then it happen again so sent it back and got a brand new one back! And becouse i was getting new ones back i was getting the years warrenty again:slayer: so just ended up sending them back everyear tokeep the warrenty
back then they did not even look at them they would just send you a new one out
God and I thought building a PC was a pain in the arse. Atleast microsoft haven't majorly gone into PC components.
The xbox mobo in my opinion was a bad design. Heat stress on mobo's is quite bad.
