Ok, ive had problems with 4th gear disspaearing.... ive now got a bigger problem..

i flushed the box out and once it had 4 liters of diesel flushed through it it was nice and clean... i then removed the end cap to find loads of these...

and where they came from

now what was happeneing was the offcuts were blocking the selector arm from moving back in to grab 4th gear... hense why it was the only one not working and occasionaly did (they moved loose)... however. now ive cleaned them completely it all was working fine :)..... TILLLLL

ive put the end back on the box ect and now the stick is in the neutral position but the box is in reverse and it wont let me move the stick at all.....

throughout ive not took the selectors off the top at all and the only thing ive moved inside the box is the gold selector arm in the pic on the bottom.... which iirc moves from 4th to 5th only... now i dont understand so any help would be great!!!

PS. yes i know the box is scrap but i need it for a job tomorrow! so if it can just get back to how it was after the swarfe removed ill replace it in a few weeks

FIXXXXXXXXEDDDDD

took the end off again and slowely re-aligned the gold selector arm.... and eventually it popped and the gears work again...

re-assembled and it now works fine BUT its obvious im going to need a box soon as its missing teeth.... might explain why the synchro has been feeling abit shite :p

As the old saying goes mate......If you can't find them..... grind them, lmfao, that box could go on for years yet, hope you get a new box sorted out soon,

Cheers Don

tbh ive not been looking. im going to wait till it dies before swapping but atm its not even whining or anything. driving lovely :) and im not usually rough with boxes so it may yet just live on :)

As I said in my previous post, I never heard of 'if you cant find them Grind them'

When i was driving HGV abnormal loads for living we had lots gears at your disposal, we used to say to one another when looking for the next gear........if you can't find them..... grind them.......older lorry's back in the 90's if you missed your opportunity to get it in gear on time you often grinded them in lmfao....hence the old saying............... If You Can't Find Then? Grind Them!

Aye I've seen it been done.
I spent 2 years working with a Traveling Funfair when I lived in England..... the Old 8 Wheeler (1960's Foden) always grinded on gear changes, we got rid of that & bought an M reg ERF 8 Wheeler...... 12speed & yes I have heard the gears in that being crunched... I moved it once on a wet field.... plenty of wheelspin :stunned:
