hi my 2001 Y reg, 1.2 black bravo sx died this morning
on the hard shoulder of the M4

garages have declared it to be a head gasket needing replacing
but the cars value
is already low there im not going to be paying £600 for the fix.

can i ask what i can do now?

any ideas?

who do i inform etc?

i can strip it but unsure how to..

how do i scrap it?

please advise

thanks in advance, sorry new to this..

i was hoping itll last a bit longer because i was thinking of a scrappage scheme but shame it died
RIP

Get all the valuable bits off it, then speak to a scrap yard. They MAY give u some wonga for it? ALthough the robbing bastards now sometimes charge you!!

WOuld imagine you have to inform dvla - could maybe do it on web?

Take it to a different garage, 600 for a head gasket? Is he having a laugh..

thanks all,

i have seen a scrappign place, will ask before but yes you do hve to declare SORN
part will go..ill list what i can on here first..

cannot do scrappage as its 2001 y reg, scrappage is from year 2000...am i right?

pistons have ben shot too..£600 was the best quote after visisitng 5 garages!

WELL I have been quoted

agreed the place tha car was seen, the quote was excessive

how can i test the ar myself?

its doesnt ignite.turn over at all

also any solutions i can try??

bravo

if it wont turn over this isnt saying head gasket? does it turn over manually via flywheel?is battery ok?have you got ignition lights when you turn on?have you checked fuses?these are a few questions i could ask,i hope you get somewhere with these suggestions

Presumably the mechanics have tested compression. more than likely the cambelts gone

Bad luck there, Yeah, 2001 on a 'Y' is still too new for scrappage scheme :(
Cut your losses and by my nice 2001 'Y' Marea instead

Question.
Why have you started 2 threads on the same subject with 2 different names - ACID and LEMON - from the same IP address - 188.222.13.194 ?

They are now running concurrently, so members may be offering advice to what they think are 2 diferent people. It is wasting your time and theirs, posting twice.

And why have they been resurected a month later?

Reading the 2 threads it would appear that although they are from the same poster, they do vary slightly in what they are requesting. One is based on head gasket info whereas the other is about actually scrapping the car.

One thread probably would have sufficed but no harm done.

What I would say however is that if Lemon or Acid (depending on the mood) is content that either thread has met their request, I'll lock one to reduce confusion.

Hope that helps.
