OT overfilling the oil

1st off, its OT because it is on my mates escort.

He decided to put some oil in his car because it was below the min mark on the dipstick, so he bought a 5 litre can of oil, and put the whole can into the car, and never bothered to check the dipstick after he had done it.

We were travelling down the dual carriageway, doing about 90-95ish, and he goes to overtake me and it was something similar to this.

We went to my mates garage, drained and re-filled the oil and it now works fine.

Is his engine now fooked? or will it be ok because it wasn't run with loads of oil in for very long?

I did the same some years ago a Diesel Clio i used to own.

Excess oil actually caught fire, and the only was i could get the engine to cut out was to stall it on purpose.. Anyway, did the same as you, drained and refilled asap, and it was fine. Still going now 3 years later.. Dunno if the fact that mine was a diesel would make any difference though.
