From yesterday i was able to get broadband at home :D

I was going to sign up with plusnet who i was with at the last address, but i have noticed they want £60 for setup plus the cost of the router, others are offering this for free!

Basically i want to know who you lot recommend, if i can get away without paying it i will!

I want 512k connection with no download limit.

The people i have seen who offer this are;

AOL - No chance!
Globalnet - use them for dialup at work and seem ok.

Any other suggestions?

I use Wanadoo. £27.99 for 1MBPS with a 30GB monthly limit which I don't get close too, and that's with 3 PC's (and my son plays America's Army online constantly !), plus my PS2.

I was worried about a limit but I installed a free monitor program that showed how much I actually used and suffice to say, I don't get near the 30GB a month limit. I also download huge audio files for my other role as a sample tester and sound designer.

To fully use your 30GB monthly limit you would have to be online 24/7, send 700 mails with photo's attached a week, receive 700 mails with photo's attached a week, download 700 music tracks a month, send 5000 emails without attachments a week, receive 5000 emails without attachments a week, watch 7 hours of streaming video a week and play online games for 35 hours a week. Now, try and tell me that you exceed that !! ;)

Download the NetMeter program and monitor a months usage and then decide :)

That's my 2 cents ;)

They've just bumped me upto a 1mb package for the same price i was paying for a 512k last year. No download limits either.

Plenty of good advice on this site.

By the way, i'm with Pipex.
They are one of the bigger ISP's with a strong infrastructure, although customer service has been questioned from time to time. Fortunately, i've never needed to contact them.

i was previously with pipex and would give them a go again, the connection was rock solid, unfortunately they cocked up when I moved house, telling me it was only possible to take my DSL account with me, if i didn't take my phone number. They do supply 80% of the FTSE100 listed companies and own their own infrastructure though.
