i got a 1.8 hlx, the cambelt tensioner went on her a while back and bent all 16 valves, got a replacement engine from a breakers, the original engine had a whining noise which i suspected was down to either the cambelt tensioner or the auxilary belt tensioner, i had new tensioners, belts etc fitted to replacement engine but whining noise is still there, only thing i figure it can be now is the alternator as the original was refitted to new engine, has any1 else had this problem, if so what was it and how was it cured, any help would be great, cheers!!

p.s. had her resprayed at the same time as engine being fitted, first pic below, more to follow!

I did originaly think it may be the gearbox when the original engine was still running, so i changed the gearbox oil for a better grade oil, still no difference, so would u say its the alternator? would it be best to refurb it or get new?

I'm not at liberty to say. Tom's the man with the answer to your question mate. :)

There is no aux belt tensioner, the alternator does that :)

Sounds like your alt, they always whine slightly.

You won't get anything other than a rebuilt one unless you spend hundreds. A rebuilt one just uses the old castings, all new bearings, nothing to be scared of.

cheers m8! i'll hav to change it cause the noise realy gets on me tits!

how much would u say is a reasonable price for a refurb? jus 2 give me an idea

cheers,
jeremy

A honda ITR and a gixxer 1000, me thinks he has a case of SPS.

You know Tom, I'd just love to see the proof ;)

A picture of the muppet, stood next to his alleged collection of Nip machinery, with a little sign confirming his identity, like "Hi, I'm Nobber, here's proof to the Bravo forum that I actually own real versions of these machines, not Matchbox replicas" ;)

Jeremy, neat Bravo you got there.

One question. Did you spray over the black plastics that are on the bumper and doors? If yes then that wasnt such a good idea as the paint will soon start to crack.

Depends if you prime it properly and if they added plasticiser to the paint.

think you might need a new clutch. my mates 1.8 was making a whining noise and it turned out to be the thrust bearing.
