1.4 Single point injection question

Hi All

Sorry if this has come up before, I have done some searching around and found the injector is a common issue with Fiat's, but all the info I find seem to be based more for the multi-point systems and not the Bosch single point fitted to the 1.4

The problem I have is that the injector light occasionally comes on, but ALSO there is a tapping noise coming from the throttle body (sometimes louder, sometimes quieter)

I've done the redex treatment and the fault has not gone away, but the light did seem to stay off for a longer period (but this could have been psychological effect as it's a temperamental issue)

Looking at the throttle body I can only guess the noise is coming from one of the following items :

Fuel Injector
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Throttle potentiometer
Idle control stepper motor

Has anyone had a similar problem with there 1.4 Fiat, and has anyone found the fault?

Cheers

Peter

The injector problems are more or less restricted to the 1.6 which uses Weber parts. Pre 2000 injectors are prone to dropping dead.

The 1.4 suffers problems with the sensors in the throttle body.

When exactly does the injector light come on?

Hi

Cheers for the reply.

It's really hard to say, the fault is VERY temperamental.

Sometimes it comes on from the turn of the key, and sometimes it comes on midway through a journey.

It's the same for when it goes off, sometimes at the end of a journey, but other times midway through.

If anything it's possible that it's more likely to come on when the car is being driven quicker than normal (not being thrashed), but this could just be psychological.

Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated, it's been going on far a while now and I'm dreading to think what the diagnostic fee is from Fiat!!!!!

£40 is normal for a diag. Its probably a sensor in the throttle thats at fault. There are several in there.

If it was the injector it would run like a dog and the light would go out when you lifted off the throttle.

i've got a 1.4 sounds like the same problem i have. the car runs fine but i dont like to thrash the balls off it because in scared that the ticking noise might come back. im taking it in for a cam belt change this week i'll at the mech what he thinks of it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: 1.4 Single point injection question

Have you guys tried any Injector Cleaner ?

Re: Re: Re: Re: 1.4 Single point injection question + temp??

Did try injector cleaner, hard to say if it had an effect, the light seemed to stay off for longer when first treated, but it's really hard to say as its such a temperamental fault.

The clicking noise is more of a query, this happens even when the light is off.

Another thing that I'm questioning, what's the average running temp of the 1.4. I read another post about the thermostat being stuck open and this caused overfueling and the injector light being on ???

Our car runs normally when the needle only just lifts and it still stays in the blue, the only time it gets higher is in traffic as you would expect, could this be part of the fault?

Cheers

Probably. Its only £20 or so for a new stat, worth a try.
