Resonator box

Resonator box

i think it's to reduce noise but i'm sure tom will tell you a more scientific purpose

Re: Re: Resonator box

They do a bit but they are mostly there to give a bit more torque lower down in the rev range.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Resonator box

its a big empty box though connected just after the air filter. How would that give more torque?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Resonator box

Certainly on my 1.6 there is a bit more of a flatspot in the 3k to 3k5 range now I've fitted the induction system but its nothing major.

I think they are really there to compensate for the rather crap induction system. The 1.2 and 1.4 don't have them after the filter (not sure about the 1.8)

The one before the filter (behind the bumper) is purely for noise reduction.

Accept it, it does :) Its to do with pressure waves and moving air. I don't even fully understand the principals! (I'm an electronic engineer, not a fluid dynamicist)

when i was hit by joy rider i collected my car and as the resonator hadn't arrived i took it without while the part came in, the car seamed ok for a while untill a slammed on the gas then i t took a while for it to build up speed, was glad to get the box back on and feel the almost turbo like kick of the 1.6
