hello, back again got a new job, my 1.2 sx is starting to worry me a little, when stood still with the engine running, the rev go to about 1500rpm then to say 1600, and back 1500 this does this for ages then eventually stops and hovers at the normal 1000, anyideas

is this what is called irratic idleing

thanks aidey

i believe at mot to take an emmissions test the car needs to be revving at 900 - 1000 (correct me if im wrong anybody) - my brothers car was running at 1600rpm and subsequently failed - but they fixed a pipe (possibly cooling pipe i dont know) and this cut the rpm down to 900rpm - is it worth checking your engine for broken, ripped etc pipes?
just a thought - and im stabbing into the dark here

Re: Re: Reving problem

They do 2 tests, one at a couple of kRPM and one at idle.

Does it only do this from cold or every time you start it?

Or does it do it when you've been driving and have slowed down?

Re: Re: Reving problem

it does when you start, once the engine is warm though it does seem to stop

Re: Re: Re: Reving problem

I think thats its natural warm up routine. Once the engine has warmed up it will drop to the correct idle revs. Its like when you use the choke on an old engine.

Eratic idling is when it jumps about while you are driving.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Reving problem

cheers tom i'll keep my eye on it for a bit though

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Reving problem

Mine is doing it as well both when cold (where it is exaggeratedly revved to 1800rpm of its own accord) and when in normal operating temperature where it changes from 900rpm to 1100rpm constantly.
I'll be taking it to get its injectors cleaned. Hope it solves the problem!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Reving problem

What mods have you done so far? It won't be an injector prob, that would give rough running, not what you are seeing.

Might just be worth taking the idle valve off and giving it a clean. Only a 10 min job.

Re: Idling

my Bravo idles at 700rpm and when the fan comes on it drops to 600rpm. is that correct?

Oh I forgot it's a diesel g

Re: Re: Re: Idling

hehe..

Just outta curiosity is there anyway to crank the Bar boost up on the TD's at all?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Idling

Yeah, get one of those little tuning boxes. Supposedly they work really well.

You even get a little switch on some, normal, plus a bit, plus more!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Idling

'little tuning boxes' err? What?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Idling

Its a little box that plugs into one of the wiring looms in the engine bay. Not sure where to get them though. I think they are in demon tweeks.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Idling

Ah right, shall be giving them a ring then!

Thanks tom :)
