I have a 92 Ducato 14 2.5D
The photos show a part that was hanging onto the air duct from the air filter to the inlet manifold - only held on by 2 tie wraps and some gaffer tape
Anyone know what it is, and what it does? Id like to either fix it or replace it.
Thanks

Hi Rosie56

The first pic seems to show a marking of 5 KPa. If this is 5 Kilopascals that's equivalent to a pressure of about 0.7 Pounds per square inch i.e. not very much. So some sort of low air pressure operated switch ? Maybe it detects the pressure drop if the air filter gets blocked, but that's only a guess.

It was taped to this threaded part. Strange thing is that the internal part of the hexagonal nut isn't threaded so not sure how it's supposed to fit. The red bit is a button but I don't understand why it's on the outside.
You could be right about it being a low pressure sensor.

Not a great photo but it was attached to the threaded part, near tie wraps.

I may be wrong but perhaps it is the air filter sensor that is fitted when the vehicle has been provided to operate in dusty conditions. The part number brings up "SIGNALS REPLACEMENT AIR FILTER FIAT DUCATO - TALENTO ORIGINAL 7688534"

I had a 2.5 d 10+ years ago...and it looks vaguely familiar :)

But you said its IN the airduct

But the cableties are on the outside ??

If its only got 1 spade terminal.. it must use a thread to earth it..

I suspect that for some reason or other the second spade has been cut off???

Given the info subsequently posted, I think that was a good guess.

To sumarise the detective work of others, it seems that it a low air pressure sensor, which would have given warning of a blocked air filter.

It does seem that it was originally screwed into the air intake between the filter and manifold. I am speculating that it has broken at the end of the threaded section which may still be screwed into the filter outlet pipe. Perhaps the screw? shown in the pictures has been inserted to block the leak of unfiltered air into the engine? Alternatively the screw could be a restrictor and part of the original switch.

If the vehicle is not likely to be used in dusty conditions, I suggest that the switch is not required, and could be removed. It would be sensible to check that there is not a small hole in the screw? inserted into the air connection.

What happened to the wiring?

It was on the outside of the air duct. It has 2 spade terminals but one has broken off.
