Hey hope some one can shed some light here. I have a problem with the wax stat on the fuel pump advance enrichment device it’s heating with 12v and pushing cable out. But I not switching 12v off when temp reached wax stat always hot. Is there a relay for this. It a 1995 2.5td

Its supposed to stay on -the wax needs to be liquid when you turn off the engine for it to work.

If you turn if off when the engine is hot the wax will will solidify with the pressure regulation valve closed and you will have no advance on cold start,

hi i read on a site that after a few minutes it is supposed to pull the lever back towards the thermo switch when warm if it stays in the advaced setting it is in cold start constantly and not burning fuel efficiently when mine is on the amount of grey white smoke is teribble for around 20 minutes as when after 3\4 minutes and returnd back to start position i get good acceleration and a very small blackish puff of smoke ?? the way i understand it is it doesnt regulate the fuel pressure but advances the pump timing a few degrees then returns it back to normal run position as it is only required upon start up of a cold engine is this not right check out this,, motor-roam.co.uk "ducato cold start" this must be wrong ??? should the advance lever be under pressure when cold ie pulled back or should it be loose under it own spring tension im lost now

Corcai,

I think that you may have got this wrong in your second sentence. It is the expansion and contraction of the wax as it is heated and cooled that is the important property here.

The wax expands as it is heated, and using a bellows or piston device moves the pump lever to the running position. When the wax cools it contracts, and moves the lever to the advanced position, ready for the next start.

Memory fades with time, but some 10+ years ago I owned a 2.5TD Talbot Express (Peugeot J5). It had a similar device, but I think that it was operated by engine temperature.

Hi Corcai
Yes you were correct about the working action of mine. If I’m not mistaken the earlier ones were mounted the opposite way as the action of it is the reverse pulling it with the thermostat. Can I ask how are these adjusted as I have adjusted it when warm. Taken slack up and it seem to be working this morning no white smoke and started of the switch straight away which is the first time it’s ever done it since I got it a year ago it must have been missing the cable clamp then.
