Hi again,
Still on the old subject of my Hymer ( Ducato), I have owned 3 Ducato's under different motorhomes so I know what I'm saying, that this is the first one I have had to stir a pudding with the gear lever ,before it goes into gear, its really bad.

I looked into Auto, Not Pussible until late 2001, so I looked in other directions
came up with quite a few suggestions decided in the end to have a new clutch and a recon gearbox which I thought should sort the selection,
(wrong) .
I have just collected my Ducato after having a bill for £1,117.00 and have to say it's exactly the same as it was before except for the clutch which I can feel is different * Better*.
Can anyone out there give some advice as to what my problem is, and what do I have to do, to put it right.

The mechanic told you there was nothing wrong with it, you probably just need to learn. i hope you kept the old box.

Hi Moodrater,
You are probably right, the problem is there doesn't seem to be any
teachers out there.
O yes there is something wrong with it I have driven enough of them
in the last few years to know that.
I just feel with so many write up's on problems there seems to be hundreds
of problems with slack, tight, flopy gearbox 's, and yet no one has said what I did was this and that, or I had mine put right by Mr Brown it cost me £uhgfr:<

I feel your pain:) the problem is that since Derek from Delfin Designs stopped trading there is no-one commercially who specializes in sorting this problem out. Most commercial garage mechanics nowadays won't have come across this as 'white vans' of this era have been scrapped long ago, it really needs a competent DIY engineer with time on their hands to look at it as there are several possible wear points. Freespirit's link on your other thread regarding gearboxes really sums the matter up.

Unfortunately there is no one particular fix that will solve the selector issue and of course parts are no longer available.

If you hadn't already spent £1K on a gearbox I would have suggested trading the van in for the post 1995 model with the cable change; having driven both models I would never go back to the floor change.

Moonrater you made my day!
It takes a lot to do these days but it was so nice to hear your problems I was begining to think it was me.
I must jump now and ask can a later box with a later gear selector be fitted to a 91. if there is the slightes chance I know a man who
would do the job for me.
thank you so much
