HELP!! HELP!!
For about 2000 miles I have had a road noise. The noise is regular and not metallic. No problems apart from noise. This comes from NSF but does not get any louder with the window down. Slightly more noise when the road is wet. No extra noise on locks. No noise when stationary in or out of gear. No noise when either wheel is off ground and in gear. No play in wheel bearings. Brake pads in place. Nothing touching wheels or tyres. Any help or suggestions appreicated. Des

Hi,
I was going to suggest raising 1 wheel at a time , and listen for differences..,

but your findings almost suggesting tyre breakdown.. have you tried the spare tyre on the n/s front position..??

can't think of anything else really!!..if you throw it out of gear at 40 / 50 mph does the noise change at all..??

Charlie

No change out of gear. I think tyre degrade is a possibility. What about low gear box oil?

It stopped raining. Still have the noise! Could be slightly less but not a great deal. Its more rubbing of no metaillic than mechanical if you know what I mwean! Does not sound mechanical! Help.

Tried that Charlie, no noise, it only comes on the road after 20 mph.!

Oh- OK,

we did that with our Marea JTD, = just ticking over in 5th gear..,

I could just hear "something" so I gave it a bit more throttle...

Speedo Zipped round to 130 MPH..!!

I could definitely hear it then,
so after more playing - found it was LHS wheel bearing " drumming".

If you can't replicate your noise doing this then it's NOT the g-box;

it's either a drive bearing underload,
or potentially something being effected by aerodynamics.."worst things to find",

good luck,
Charlie

Its a wheel bearing. Finally reproduced the noise on the jack. Did not come in till 5omph. Stange it starts at 15 on the road. Have cahanged the tyre twice to be sure, no difference. Moved the brake pads off the disc no difference. No noise from other wheel. So its the wheel bearing. Thanks everyone, how many hours labour should I expect?

Really depends the whole thing might slide apart with a couple of tons on the press or if theres corrosion it could be torch+50 ton press and cursing.

All done. Greatr guy in Ukfield. Wheel bearing and fuel filter change including parts £210.00. Thank you all for your help.:)
