Hi Guys ,
This is a cry for help ! I have a 2000 x reg Ducato 2.8 i dtd ( Benimar Motorhome ) it loses power on the slightest incline and on steep hills it will not even pull in first gear . It has done 27.000 miles . I have been told this model cannot be chipped or remapped , can anyone advise me "please " I have just been away and came to a steep hill which I had to change down to first gear it still would not pull and we just stopped in middle of the road !! Later on the motorway overtaking at 70 mph we came to the smallest of inclines power went lower and lower untill in the end lorries were going past me on the inside lane. Help  This a 2.8 idtd not a jtd !!
Eddie

I had a similar expeirence several years ago and located a loose connection on the air inlet hoses in front of engine bay. Tightening the jubilee clip did the trick.

Confirm, it can be remapped, no problem. I have a friend who done my vw passatt 2 years ago and it was brill.

Figures are Ducato 2.8 idtd standard = 127 bhp, 300 lbs of torgue:
Remapped figures = 150 bhp, 370 lbs of torgue

idtd is not equalt to jtd
jtd is 127bhp common rail injection can be remapped
idtd is 122bhp mechanical diesel pump cannot be 'remapped'

The idtd can have the fuelling and boost increased for increased power and torque both are adjusted mechanically.

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem and my motorhome is the same year. My problem was due to a snapped turbo link. It's not as drastic as it sounds but a fiddly job because access is very tight. This linkage operates the waste gate valve on the turbo which is responsible for your lack of power. If you can get underneath with a torch and locate the linkage you should see if its snapped. If it is and similar to mine then you will have to percivear in getting the snapped bits out small taps with a small hammer and copious amounts of WD40 will help. I actually took the snapped bit to a toolmaker friend who machined a new part this is very very small so shouldn't cost more than a couple of quid. In fact my friend made a spare. Be careful not to wind back the linkage as this will effect performance but you will need a bit of leverage to get it back on. My motorhome after tweaking the linkage goes up hills in 5th gear no problem and travelled to Europe twice with no issues. There are other causes of coarse but this was my problem. Hope this helps.

i also have a 2.8 idtd can anyone explain how to alter the fuelling and turbo for a bit more power many thanks ken

I had a link break on my turbo 2.8.It worked the wastegate, what a akward job to do.I cheated though,I cut a hole in the cab floor and did it the easy way, then welded floor back.
