Hi, there seems to be a new problem developing with my van, a few days ago it wouldnt turn off with the key, had to stall it, tried key a few times but the same. Fine next morning , thought no more of it . A day later the edc light is on but no loss of power that i could notice. A day after that the van wouldnt start at all, completely flat, so out with the jump leads and then the cooling fan is on all the time! Eventually found the fuse for the fan and pulled it out, and now the engine wont turn off again! Any ideas??
Cheers

UPDATE
just noticed with the bonnet up there is a constant high pitched whining noise coming from in there somewhere, any ideas what this could be?

ECU must be going haywire, check the voltage from the alternator the regulator may be kaput.

just put the fan fuse back in and it didnt come on thankfully ... van still wont turn off though, all the ignition lights go off when i remove the key but engine keeps running!! will try to get it plugged in to read the fault code(s)......

just went back to the van and the cooling fan was running by itself again! fuse back out now...was whining in engine bay again also so started pulling the other fuses and relays out till it stopped, a red relay T09 stopped it, cant see in the handbook what this is for, does anybody know?
cheers

Hi

Try checking under bonnet fuse box for any signs of water ingress the blue 2 pin multiplug controls your fans and that T9 relay controls the injection circut. Good luck.

thanks for that, there was signs of water around fuse box and also the contacts on the fuses and relays had water marks on them so stripped the fuse box out and took the front off it, soaked it in wd40 , (couldnt quite strip the box completely, only the front would shift) and also soaked the relays in wd40 for a while, re assembled and all is ok for the moment, no fans running and engine turns off, however the edc light is still lit . note to self- do not remove front wheel arch inner splash shields to get more air flow to the front brakes again:eek:!

Hi
Just done a 2.2 multijet for running on with key out of ignition removed under bonnet fuse box and split in 2 and found circut to be corroded causing short, will try and post pictures.(y)

Its amazing a short like that can keep the whole engine running good to know, that would have had me running around in circles.

Hi

here is the picture of the fuse board hope this helps.

ahhhh yes I have done at least 5 myself ( 3 from same company) although didnt investigate fusebox just renewed them (£70 odd)

Interesting picture, thanks Fubar(y)

on the ecu:confused:

have you checked the fusebox like fubar suggested?

yes fuse box was looking a bit dodgy (see above) but cant afford to replace it yet so a clean up and wd40 was all i could do, have a feeling that it will have to be replaced in the future though (how much ££ for fuse box?) where is the ECU on these beasts?
