How do I set the tappets on a 2.0i petrol Ducato and what are the settings?

Position each cam facing upwards and check that the clearance corresponds to the recommended values.

Valve clearance for 1998cc petrol engine
1 VALVE TAPPETS mm
Inlet valve clearance check 0,15 - 0,25
Exhaust valve clearance check 0,35 - 0,45
If the clearance does not correspond to the recommended figure, carry out the adjustment below which necessitates the removal of the camshaft from the cylinder head & timing belt refitment etc.

1. Remove the tappets.
2. Remove a calibrated pad (shim) and measure its thickness.
- Determine the difference between the clearance measured and the recommended clearance for that pad.
- Determine the thickness of the pad to be used by adding the thickness of the current pad to the difference measured.
- Repeat the procedure for all the calibrated pads.
- Fit the tappets in the housing.
- Recheck clearances after reassembly to ensure they are within limits of the specs above.
