My other half bought his van in May and since then it has done not much short of 30k. Due to work commitments he has found it impossible to get the poor thing serviced and so it has only just been done this weekend.

This is the fun part, at about 20k the oil warning light came on, obviously - chip fat would have been more use than the black sluge that was in it.

Then the light for water in the diesel came on, it comes on and off at will!

The engine management light of course then kicked in - if this van was a person it would be lying dying somewhere.

It has now lost considerable power which of course is resulting in a thrashing evey time my partner takes it to work to keep pace with the work load, costing us a small fortune in diesel and constant fuel stops

The jist of the story is that the garage that carried out the service have said that they cant get in to the vans computer to turn any lights off or find out why they are on in the first place. So looking like a trip to fiat.

I suspected an oil pressure problem, a bit miffed the garage didnt look into it while they had it but never mind.

Anyone any thoughts on this????????????

I cannot accept that you didn't have time to service it. If you are that busy with work, hire a van for a day!!!!!!!

We've gradually downsized from three vans to one due to business changes. If our only van needs work doing or a service guess what??????

WE HIRE ONE. Simple. We look after our van as it is our bread and butter.

Even at 136,000 miles, we average 3 days off road in a year. 2 days for MOT, Another day for tyre changes and cursory oil change etc!!!

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this thread is a bit of a wind up!!!

Seems a little daft to spend that money on a new van then treat it in this way! There are dealers out there who would have even leant you a van for the day!

Looks like you are still going to end up in a Fiat dealer to have the issues solved but expect to pay for it!

The reason we didnt take it to fiat in the first place is because the fiat garage in our city does not have commercial mechanics in on a saturday so they were of no use to us. The nearest one after that is over 60 miles away and they didnt have a space for it for another month.

We are self employed and a young family, if you dont work you dont get paid - simple.

And the reason we didnt HIRE a van is because we are both under 25 and no hire company would hire to us, dont think we were too stupid not to try a hire company - rather insulting!

But I am sure you are all glad to hear that the van has now been repaired, a rather long list was handed to fiat after they eventually agreed to give us a van to replace it whilst ours was being worked on and it was all covered by warrenty. But thanks for all your help or rather lack thereof :bang:
