Hi all, My doblo cargo is just over 2 years old, 22k mls and my exhaust has broken comletely near the front due, i think to corrosion, is a 2 year life span normal for a fiat original exhaust?

Doesn't sound very long. I guess the type of use has a big effect on exhaust life. Short journeys will tend to fill the system with water with the obvious result. Regular long journeys will tend to evaporate the water away.

Mrs_G's Cargo is still on its original exhaust system. (2.75 years old, 204,000 miles at time of this post). However the chap that services the van has made a point of mentioning that the system is starting to look like its getting towards the end of its life. (A different beast altogether I know but my 3.5 ton van is 3.5 years old/ 245,000 miles still on its original exhaust system which appaers to be in fine condition).

I guess I'll have to start looking at the various options soon. Luckily if/when the exhaust does fail Mrs_G has access to another vehicle to use while the Doblo is being repaired - the only trouble is that even with sensible driving it uses 50% more fuel that the van on her daily 360 mile run.

I bought my fiat doblo van when it was 2 1/2 years old, within a month of buying it the middle and back section of exhaust failed which was £300 to replace then about 4 months later the front down pipe snapped which was £70 to replace, so in the first 3 years of its life the whole exhaust has been replaced apart from the manifold, I have done 101,500 in it though but still you would expect it to last longer, I saw the 2 failed bits of exhaust and both times it looked like it was the welds on the exhaust that had failed so poissbly not making them strong enough

hi mackd0001, my exhaust failed at a weld to, rest of system seem's quite good so may try to get it welded, I Have a nissen primera as well and just had exhaust replaced at 5 years/50k mls, so i was expecting slighty longer on my doblo!

Well, on my dads Seicento (i know its not a doblo, but its still a fiat) he had to get a new exhaust after about 11K (or 3 years) but that was mainly due to the fact that he did a lot of short journeys (and it was made by fiat :D ).

he front part of the exhaust lasted about 4 1/2 years the rest is still on afer just over 5 years.
Your 2 years does seem a bit on the low side.

I had the same stock exhaust on my Citroen ZX for 10 years. And that with only 42,000 on the clock when I sold it. Depends a lot on luck I suppose.

Hiya,

To answer your question, go to longlife.co.uk, they quoted me £299 for a stainless system from the CAT back (not inc cat), but Fiat wanted more like £700. Longlife also said if I wanted to de-cat and change the whole system it would be just short of £400! Fiat want nearly £800 for the full system because the cat is part of the centre pipe!

THE DEED IS DONE!!!!! I have been to Longlife exhausts and had the new rear section fitted (from just behind the CAT) and it is awsome!!!!!!!! It is the standard bore size but a much smaller sized back box (smaller on the outside, bigger on the in!!) so it makes a very nice (y) burrbley noise!!

I cannot thank Longlife enough, they are extremely professional in their work ethics and workmanship, polite, curteous and they don't rush the job, although it was finished within 3 hours!

Power is up a little but that sound! Even from a JTD.

So the moral of this story is, if you need an exhaust (many of us must be getting near), Fiat want £800ish, Longlife.co.uk want £299 in stainless with a tailpipe of your choice (mine looks lovely!!).......the choice for me was simple!:slayer: (y)

I will try and sort that out this afternoon and put a link on here! The wind is that strong though it may spoil my fun and carry the noise away; I'll try anyway:D

My exhaust gave in yesterday at exactly 49,000 miles. The pipe snapped off at the CAT. So I presume it will be a new CAT & everything aft of the CAT.

my 04 doblo snapped on the cat, it was the weld that gave way, it was going to cost over £400, my local garage welded a new piece in for £35.00, it was fine after that until I sold it.

Mrs_G's Cargo was serviced today. They exhaust has failed in the same way. The garage are hoping to weld in a new section as the rest of the system is still serviceable. I'll update next week with how successful they were.
