I look a model with bt (bt70), than I buy a Blaunpunkt Los Angeles MP74 which have a good tuner, BUT SOUND is not so great like Pioneer, i have in old Doblo old model 6800 and is a lot better sound.
grrrrr
Next time Pioneer. ;)

Yeah, it was between Alpine and Pioneer for me, but luckily I tried my Dads Pioneer first and I thought well it's got to be Pioneer :D Great sound even with standard speakers, so they'll be staying put for now, it's something I can replace in the future when I have more money :)

Re: Dancing In The Streets May Now Begin !!!!!

Dunnit!
Didn’t get a chance to take any pictures but here’s the sequence for anyone tackling the same job.

Don’t forget to eject your CD from the existing radio before starting!!!:bang: Hard to eject with no power :bang:

Remove existing radio using release pins.

Remove 4 cross head screws from lower side of steering column shroud. Don’t need to remove shroud just need to be able to move it away from central area a couple of centimetres.

Open glove box.

Remove 4 torx head screws – 2 on either side of lower central dash and pull lower central dash back slightly.

Pull up on gearstick gaiter and unclip from dash.

Remove 2 cross head and 2 torx head screws now visible through the hole normally covered by gaiter.

Prise out the central air vents. BE VERY CAREFUL. The front flaps and ring may come off first but stop pulling on them. You want the complete unit – a tube about 6 inches long.

Remove 2 cross head screws through vacant air vent holes.

Pull upper central dash back.

Remove 2 screws securing front of binnacle to dash.

Remove 2 screws securing back of binnacle to dash.

EASY PEASY WHEN YOU KNOW HOW.

Tip for reassembly:

The air vent tubes will only fit back in the correct orientation. There is a tag running down the side of each tube which must line up with a cut out in the dash hole.

.

Or..... you could bodge it in. :D

I fitted a new Sony Radio/CD/MP3 thing today in the way Niall described.

Niall, if the Krypton Factor ever comes back on TV you should enter! Many thanks for the post.

I would back up what others have said, the sound quality is better now and I don't have to fill the car with CD's.

Midweek I bought a ripspeed cmr2000 for £90. It has an SD slot as well as USB port & the front turns down to insert CDs.
It's the same size as the pioneer cd player that came out, although I had to mod the back of the pod to get the space.

With the radio out, insert a long crosshead to undo the two screws at the back, lift the back of the pod enough to gain access with stanley & slice off the plastic support bracket to gain an extra inch.

The ripspeed comes with an adapter to plug the dobbie's wiring loom into the back, an aerial adaptor is the only extra expense.
After this, the dobbies wiring loom & socket needs to be carefully pushed back under the dash (through the large hole it comes out of) and the new unit just squeezes in.
Sound quality is far better than the pioneer, much louder.
I now have umpteen albums dropped onto a 4 gig SD card and at power on, the unit plays at the point it was at when it was turned off (like having a cassette player). You also get the artist & song title scrolling across the screen (if you save it to the card).

Best of all, the main display is blue but all the buttons are red - so matches dobbie's display.
You also get a remote control pad and where the front drops forward (slowly) to access the cd player, it also allows you to remove the faceplate.

The Ripspeed unit is ok, not the best, but that's cause I deal with them :p

Glad you fitted it ok though and you like your new tunes (y)

The quality is better than the pioneer unit that I took out, I can crank up the volume way more than the pioneer could give out & the standard speakers seem to be able to take the extra. It's certainly loud enough to hear the music above any road noise & I've had the windows down all the time so far.

And I like the way the front slowly flips down to access the CD / remove the faceplate.

A pity the unit wasn't black/grey to blend in - although the buttons light up red like the dash so that's a bonus.
I also appreciate the way it starts at the same point you left it when you switch off, handy as I have a 4 gig SD card in there with 20 albums loaded on.

My first post :D so hello to all of you.

Since you are able to take pictures, can you please post one of the front dash board speakers? In mine I have only two holes to attach the speaker to and I was wondering if I am not missing some type of adapter since the car came without speakers.

Had a look at mine tonight & the speakers are a shade smaller than yours but the fitting is the same (except mine were fitted behind the 2 lugs).

Wonders why the mounting only has 2 lugs when all speakers generally have 4 mounting holes?

They are only 10cm speakers, so no real need for 4 mounts as they are not very heavy and don't really produce enough bass to warrant a strong base for them to sit on ;)

Hi Niall,

fitted a hands free system a while ago, which plugs in through the radio, for cut out on answer, it was a nightmare,

you basically have to stip the whole of the panels off the lower dash, and gearstick surround to get at the the two screws which hold the radio box on. when you do get in there, there is not enough room to swing a mouse let alone the cat that goes with it, the hole at the back of the dash ( unde the radio cap) is so small that cables are lucky to go through, suggest checking radio to be fitted has same connectoers, and check alarm systems work properly after, as dont forget the the original is key coded to ingnition key,

Halfords decided they coulnt fitt my system after an hour, went haome and manged it in 3

good luck

I can strip the whole dash now in under 6min (timed ;)) because I've done it so many times for access to behind the radio to fit various accessories and charger leads for phones etc.

Once you've done it a few times it's easy peasy :)

As far as the wiring goes are you any good with a stanley knife? Enlarge the existing hole, you'll find all your wires fit in nice and easy then... I've got an iPod bus cable, iPod power cable, remote cable, RCA pair cable, and the pioneer loom in there now with no problems :)

Going back to the subject of the binnacle, anyone know if there is a similar item on the market? I'm thinking maybe something wider & longer.
The current object looks a bit like an afterthought - the way it sits in an obvious recess, it should have been made so the sides just cover the 'crease' on all three sides - they could also have made it so that it clipped into place, perhaps squeezing the sides to remove it.

I know you used to be able to buy plastic pods for radios to mount under a dash & I've seen some on feepay for range rovers but they are rather square.

Yeah, we use them on Landrover's, not quite the thing you'd expect to see on the Dash of a Doblo as they aren't pretty unless they're in a Landrover.

The only other thing you could do is manufacture it somehow so that it clips off as you said, but for now just practise taking that dash apart ;)

I have an 04 doblo with the cassette player in, oh my god i have to change that. I am looking to fit a cd mp3 player in and after reading all these threads on here i dont know if i should attempt it or not. I think i will need a fascia plate for it but cant find any on the net at all for the doblo. Can someone help me please. I want loudness and quality and is willing to spend money to get a good sound. Thanks

Tried my dad's Pioneer Head Unit from his Transit in the car today and I must admit I was impressed with the difference in sound even with the standard speakers!

As I had planned to get a pioneer anyway, I gave them a call and they said that the unit would fit the Doblo with no adaptors, as it already has an ISO connector going into the original radio. Pioneer supply a lead with their Head Units that allow a standard ISO connector to be plugged into the selected Head Unit, and after inspection of the lead on their site they proved to be right.

So hopefully soon I will be graced with better sound :)
It's because of you Niall that I want one now :p all donations gratefully recieved ;)
Hi
I realize that the message is two years old but -
I am an oap and facy changing my radio cassette for a cd.
The thought of stripping dash boards etc. puts me off as I find it difficult to bend and squirm into wee spaces. Question is - can you remember which Pioneer model you fitted to the Doblo or will they all fit??
Hopefully - thank you
