Hi, Welcome to Fiat Forum,
Is there any history to this fault? When did it happen, was anything done to the car recently? Also what engine does your van have?
It sounds like a bad ground connection either on engine, engine ECU or body computer.
Also check the grounds on the rear light clusters, this has caused weird problems on other models.

hi no history of this, engine is 16 valve SX Multi jet only 5 yrs old done roughly 67000 miles I'm only driver and I'm quoted 1100 for ECU part would this be about right don't know if the rear cluster has been checked I did have a wiring problem that affected the rear door recently they sorted and taped it could this have caused a problem?

Hi,
Yes a rear door loom problem could be related to your issues. 1100 sounds a lot for an ECU, depends on exactly what they are replacing. I don't know the Doble immobiliser set-up but normally you need either a "virgin" ECU or a complete set including key, body computer and possibly instrument custer.
You can get th engine ECU rebuilt for around 250 (50 if checked and no fault found)
http://www.ecutesting.com/catalogue/...4046&model=610 (random search result, I've not used or researched the supplier, make your own decision). Taking the ECU out and sending it for check / repair is a DIY job. Even if you ha to hire a van while doing it it would still be cheaper than 1100.
Unless the garage will guarantee that the 1100 is a fix with no extra cost (I very much doubt they will) I would not pay it. They need to do basic wiring and ground checks BEFORE changing expensive boxes.
