Friend bought a stereo on ebay that came with a code but gets "code error". The stereo should work because it was shown working on the previous vehicle. Any ideas?

hi meska, I think I'm right in saying that once the power goes you lose the code, I had a vau that had no code, found a local guy he got a new code for us all was well. Cheers, Neil

Pretty sure the code is right as they showed us the card with it on.

Could it be that the code is stored on the car cpu and not the stereo so it doesn't match up?

Thanks for the replies

the cars body computer will recognise it's ORIGINAL radio.., so doesn't ask for a code..

YOUR FIAT doesn't recognise it..
you'll need to ask for the radio code in the thread ;)

Thanks for your reply. Don't quite understand are you saying you cant use any other stereo other than the original?

No, what he's saying is the Car stores the radio code after it's been entered for the first time in the body computer (Original Fiat Stereo). That way if you disconnect the battery or remove the radio and then put the same radio back in the car, the car recognises it and you don't need to enter the code again.

IF you change to a different stereo (OEM Fiat Stereo) then you need the Radio code in order to enter it again on first use (car see's it as a new radio), once entered correctly the car stores the code and the above applies.

Not sure it does it on aftermarket stereos though, only original fitment fiat ones.

What you guys have said is valid, but it sounds like the guy has got the radio and a code from another vehicle, they're not trying to use their original vehicle's code for the new radio, that would be stupid :p

As said earlier though, the code is probably wrong. Post the details on the thread I mentioned and Davren will get you the correct code.

Thanks. I'll get them to contact Davren on this forum.
