Hello chaps. Can I put 205/50/16 straight on my dobby?

If you had 15'' wheels with 65 series tyres on originally, then the wheel/tyre combination you want to fit should give you [more or less]the rolling radius of your standard one's
The only thing is with 205's the inner tread will wear out quicker than the standard tyres.

As said you need to know what you started with to compare to what you'll end up with.
One of the factors will be gearing. From what I understand to 205mm is the width of tyre, the 50 is the percentage of the width to give you the tyre profile then the 16 is the radius of the wheel in inches. So if I'm correct your tyre is 8" wide so your profile is 4" in depth, therefore your new tyres are 24" high. If you do the same calculation with your original tyres you will be able to work out what the difference is in height.
If your going a significant amount higher your drivetrain will have to work harder to push the wheels around - abit like being in a higher gear. The centre of the wheel is being driven at the same speed regardless of what size tyre, it's the outer edge that is in contact with the road that is being driven harder/faster if you get my drift - hence the potential gearing issues.
Then after that, you have got to consider if bigger tyres will physically fit under the wheel arches and not fail on anything of full lock etc. - mind you, an angle grinder will soon sort that out(y)

Its a 55 plate 1.9 jtd, to replace the 175/70/14 buttons! Dia is close enough to my mind, just need to know if they will fit without grinding or spacers.
Inside edge wear is horrendous on the 14" anyway, scrubbed out perellies in under 10k!

I can confidently say you will be ok as long as the off set is as near to standard as possible.
I fitted 205/40/17 to my fiorino that had 195/65/14's as standard, and i had **** loads of space.
''Dobbys'' have a load of space around the arch.
Have or can you borrow the size of wheel/tyre combo as a trial fit?
