I have recently purchased a 2008 fiat doblo multijet van 1.3 diesel. I noticed when changing the oil filter that the black metal guard that covers the filter is missing.
Could anyone tell me is this guard important? Do I need to fit one.

we took ours of 2 years ago when we changed filter it runs ok

First Oil change I did was 4 years ago - junked that then.
