Hi.
I sold on my Doblo 1.2 a few months ago to a relative. The lad is totally clueless with cars. He was driving up from down south at full pelt and the temperature hit the red, the warning light came on but still he drove till the the car lost power and stopped.
OK so at the very least the Head Gasket has failed. Although the engine will now start there is knocking from the bottom end and loads of pressure in the water system. There is at least 5 litres of water in the sump and clouds of blue smoke in addition to steam from the exhaust.
Would the engine be fixable or has the severe roasting been its death sentence.
I don't want to spend out a lot of money and find its a lost cause.
Advice please :)

red light is there for a reason and if temp was ignored:bang: engine nearly seized and damage has occurred probably pistons, rings and shells on the crank stripped or badly scored and other aliens floating around water and metal fragments all add up(n) new or replacement engine needed.

Hi John.
I did say to him that I wasn't getting involved but I would take a look at it. I have passed the car back to him and the key, at least he did admit it was his fault!

Good lesson for him though.

Moral: don't ignore warning lights or steam, or any change in the behaviour of your car.

Kids eh! :D
