Hello.

I have a 51 plate doblo van which has failed it's mot. It failed on the side lights not coming on when the car is off.

Apparently they should. I have had three mot's on this van and the lights have never behaved in this way and it has never failed the mot on it.

The garage say it might need a new ignition barrel, so a trip to fiat, and new keys.

Can anyone help or advise of any possable reasons why the side lights would not be working when the engine is off.

Thanks

Stupid question perhaps, but does your Doblo have a black push in insert directly underneath the key barrell?

My Doblo and previous Multipla have and you need to press in as you rurn the key to the off position to keep the side lights on when the vehicle is off.

Hi

So you have to push the button in. The garage say it is not working. I didn't even know it had that function.

If it was broken, would a new barrel be needed?

I lost the ability to push the button and move the key when my ignition key was worn (I have a 2004 Doblo). It worked fine for starting and running the van, but wouldn't allow the barrel to turn back far enough to put the lights on. Once I had a new key cut, it works fine once again.

Do you also have the follow me head lights?

If after turning the engine off, and before before removing the key - flash the lights, if you have this then they stay on for 30 seconds. If you flash twice then 60 seconds etc, upto I think a maximum of 240 seconds; certainly enough for me to see the the front door key hole in the dark!!

I think you should phone the DVLA and check you rgarage is correct or perhaps the police. I think as long as the sidelights work then having them available as a "parking" light is not part of the MOT.

I thought that the `parking light` rule on public highways was stopped over 20 years ago as street lighting was deemed to be more than enough light, my 2006 Doblo activates the side lights when the black button is held in and you turn the engine off.

The cure to this problem takes 15 minutes and uses one scotchlock connector.
The Side lights are NOT controlled by the body computer but the way they are wired is odd. When you switch the side lights on 12 volts are fed via the yellow/blue lead to the ignition switch the output of whiich is then fed from the switch to the side lights via the yellow lead from the ignition switch so side lights are only available on run and park. Simple cure link the yellow & yellow/blus leads on the ignition switch connector together. Then the side lights are always available.
